My 2 year old, 5th generation, medium, Café Labradoodle has been having seizures. He has had one a month for the past four months. Does any one have suggestions on preventing them?
Kate, we have quite a bit of information in the Health & Medical Issues Group about seizures: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/healthandmedicalissues/forum/topi...
There are few members there who are dealing with this and are quite knowledgable.
However, the first step is to consult your vet and find out what is causing the seizures. There can be many different reasons why this would be happeneing, stemming from many different causes. This is a medical issue and needs to be properly diagnosed. Other dog owners in a social forum can't diagnose or help prevent your doodle's seizures, as much as we would like to help. Please take your doodle to the vet.
Kate, be sure and mention the timing of the seizures to your vet. With them occurring once a month, do they coincide with giving heartworm or flea medications by any chance? Any other patterns you can think of? These things may all help the vet pinpoint the cause.
Good luck, Kate. Our goldendoodle has seizures and I know how stressful and scary it can be. If you get an epilepsy diagnosis from your vet, I've found a lot of good information on this site, below. Feel free to send me a private message if you want to talk more about it or just vent!
