My labradoodle has issues with his water bowl. It's stainless steel, and we keep it clean. We change his water every morning & after he eats. That's 3x a day. He still prefers the fresh toilet water, even if it isn't flushed. I tried putting the Clorox bleach cups in the tank thinking that would turn him off of it, but nope, he still drank it and then got sick. Boy did I feel bad about that one. He will also drink out of the plastic bowl we keep for him in our bedroom versus his nice stainless steel, raised bowl. What's up? Anyone have any ideas?
Your funny! I have 3 kids and a husband, the toilet never stays closed no matter how many times I close it. ....And the bowl in the bedroom is for when he's closed up all night in there, he can't go downstairs to get a drink. I just wandered if anyone could give me some clues as to why he does this.
Maybe he doesn't like the stainless steel bowl - my goldendoodle wouldn't drink out of the plastic bowl we took camping for her and we had to go buy her a ceramic bowl like she had at home - quirky little thing. If you are worried about the bacteria in the plastic bowl try ceramic in your kitchen or if not, move the plastic bowl to the kitchen. As for the toilet I have to agree just keep the lid closed :-)
I put a sign on the toilet seat lid that says "Unless you like Toilet Water Kisses, Please close the lid". That way it reminded people (myself included) to put it down!
My chihuahua hated the stainless steel bowl I got him 6 years ago. No more stainless for me - get ceramic. It is worth a try. Why don't you measure the feeder and just buy the same size ceramic bowls? I think they are pretty standard sizes. Check out ebay even...
I saw something on tv regarding this - the dogs had collars with tags on them and when they drank out of metal bowls the tags banged gainst the bowls and scared them. Therefore, they did not want to drink out of metal bowls. don't know if your dog wears tags or not, but wanted to share this in case.
Give him a plastic bowl or keep the lid down on the toilet. Our doodle decided she liked the toilet water also so we just learned to put the lid down. Good Luck
