Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Took Chewie to be groomed today and for his first REAL FURcut.  His fur was very long...at least 4  or 5 inches.  I talked to the groomer at length trying to be very specific about what I wanted.  I think between me not realizing what a particular length would look like and her deciding what she really thought he sould look like, we have quite the transformation.  He looks like he lost 15 lbs and his legs got twice as long...LOL.  With a much "closer" haircut I can really see the shape of his body and his poodle genes are shining through.  I'm still in shock and although he looks cute, he doesn't look like my Chewie.  My 8 yo granddaughter started crying when she saw him.  I'd say the fur on his body is between 1-1/2 and 2" long..

Well, I know it will grow back and this will be much easier to maintain as he was starting to get some mats.  It will be fun seeing it grow out and deciding what length we like best.  I'll try to post before and after pics tomorrow.

I think he still looks adorable!
I think he looks cute, but he will look perfect in a few weeks!! Really, it won't take long and he will be that lovely in between length.
Chewie looks good. He has beautiful fur! We had to do this to Bear in January. I thought this can't be my dog when I picked him up. I got used to it and I will be picking him soon from the groomers again today. Trying to stay ahead of those nasty mat's.
I have to expect this ANYTIME I take Allie to ANY Groomer (we have tried 4 different places, and are running out of options). I have gotten the cut I wanted once (out of countless Grooming's). It will grow back fast though. And anyway - you can't take the "cuteness" out of a doodle, no matter how hard they try!!!!! Give it a couple of weeks and you will love the length.
Chewie is adorable with long & shorter hair! I know it's not what you wanted, though. :-) There is a breeder on DK who says she keeps her dogs hair shorter on the body, then blends it into longer hair on their legs. Maybe that would be a good compromise for your groomer? He really does look cute, though!! :-)
Yes the first haircut is very traumatizing. They nerver seem to look the same after that . It does grow back fast . It's just so sad because it's the next step into adulthood .
Wow!! They did take alot of hair off, but I think he is still a handsome boy..=)
Thanks again everyone! I agree that somewhere inbetween will be just perfect...he had way too much fur before, and this is definitely a little too short. As it's growing out when it hits the perfect length, I'll have to measure it for future reference.

My sarcastic neighbor said I could keep him in the house 'til summer and hopefully by then it will all grow out. LOL...this is coming from the woman who lets her little 7-8 pounder run loose all the time.
Laura - at least Chewie is still adorable with that cut! My mom got her cairn terrier groomed about 2 weeks ago...Lucy DID have 3" wavy hair. I walked in the house and mom said "have you seen our new dog" in a terrified voice. She started crying. Lucy's hair was shaved. She didn't even matt! Mom has been calling her "lucinda the imposter". She thinks she looks like a hounddog. My mom is dramatic.
Thought you would get a kick out of that!
OMG, yes I just laughed aloud! We do have to find the humor in these situations. Chewie looks adorable...just doesn't look like MY Chewie and doesn't look like "my vision" of how I would like him to look. My daughter and I agree where he had looked like shag carpeting, now he looks like plush carpeting. Oh well, this too shall pass...or should I say grow.

I started another thread about this in the grooming group. I need to understand what the groomer told me, so we will be more successful next time.
I'll attach a pic that will make you think Chewie has long hair :-)
I am one of the odd ones here who like my doodle short.

cute! love his teddy-bear nose and golden ears~
