I am in Phoenix on vacation, and we are sitting my aunts 4 month old shih tzu.  We want to go do some site seeing in Jerome and Sedona, but can't leave the dog alone all day.  Does anyone know if those areas are dog friendly?  He is really well behaved, and if necessary, I could carry him in his soft sided case to go into restaurants.

I've never been to Jerome, but Sedona is certainly dog friendly. Not too many places in Arizona that aren't dog friendly, especially if you have a small pup like that and have a soft-sided case to use. I would think you'd have no problem taking him with you. While you're in Sedona, be sure to stop by the Three Dog Bakery!
Both area's are very dog friendly and we have taken our doodles to both. There are outdoor cafe's and coffee shops and I have walked into some stores with them. Phoenix has some of the nicest dog parks I've ever been to and we've traveled all over the country. Enjoy. We are having great weather this week too.
Now that I think about it, Jerome is so eclectic that if anywhere is accepting of dogs it would be there. Very "hippy" life-style there.
I think it would be a store by store basis. The weather will be nice so worse case you can leave him outside of the store while you shop. Typically, as long as the restaurants have side access to the patio they typically they will let you have a dog on the patio while you eat. Good luck and enjoy Sedona and Jerome! The area is so beautiful and restaurants are really good.
We travel and always take our Doodle. Buy a copy of "the Dog Travel Guide" and bring it with you. It provides Dog Parks, Hotels, Restaurants, Vet names and locations etc. for every city. I purchased mine on Amazon.com. It goes everywhere with us. It has been a lifesaver for dog friendly facilities.
We stayed for a week in the Sedona area last fall with our young pup and she was pretty much welcome most places. We never took her inside a restaurant, and only took her into shops with permission. There were outdoor cafes, however, even in the fall where she could sit with us. Some shopping required my husband to hang around outside the stores with the dog, a task he seemed to prefer! If you can carry a four month old in a carrier I wouldn't worry about it at all. Have a great time. We plan to go back.
We never made it to Sedona, but in Jerome, Brownie was welcome everywhere. I had him on-leash and carried him into the shops. It was too hot to leave him in the car when we ate, so we decided to head back to PHX to be on the safe side. I think it would have been fine to take him in the carrier but I didn't want him barking and disturbing anyone. So, maybe next time!

Thanks for all the input!
