Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Those of you with shedding doodles. What were their coats like when they were tiny pups? (Straight, curly, wooly, silky, wiry, hairlike?) Do you have any pics of them as new tiny puppies? I am just curious as to whether their are any tried and true predictors of adult coats in a young puppy. And shedding or not all doods are wonderful. I am just curious how breeders advertise a 3 week old puppy as shedding or non shedding that soon.

For people who have shedding doodles and allergies, do any of you have problems with allergic reactions to your dogs?
I am not allergic to dogs, but am allergic to the things they get into.
Here is Dexter (F1B labradoodle) at 9 weeks. He has always shedded just a tiny bit.

So I don't have the only doodle that sheds like a you know what!! There is nothing light or nonshedding about her! Her breeder did tell me to expect at least mild to moderate shedding - she never led me to believe non-shedding. When she was a puppy - she is just over a year now - she had a very fluffy coat. Now her coat is really all over the place, cowlicks, curls, a little coarser on the top and super soft underneath. I was really hoping for less shedding that an Golden Retreiver but I think she actually sheds more. I do find with her coat that a furminator does work great but she has really super sensative skin so the shampoo's that are supposed to reduce shedding don't work for us - they make her itch. If I use the furminator daily and bath her weekly it helps but in all honestly I just vacume and use a lint roller a lot! I have to admit that I would rather have the shedding than constant matting that I know some doodles have to deal with :-( I was so not a dog person to begin with and did not want a dog that shed or on my furniture but now I have Hunter and she just sheds and lays all over my couch and I couldn't love her more!

This was Jack on the right when he was about 4 months old. His coat was wavy-curly and jet black. He is now a light shedder. Moose on the right has long black fur that feels like human hair. He does not shed but does have an undercoat which brushes out.

Luna sheds, though not quite as much as a Golden.  She also sheds seasonally, since she grows a white, fluffy undercoat in the Winter.  She's an F1 mini goldendoodle and looks pretty much like a tiny Golden.  Her coat was very short and straight as a puppy, but extremely soft (not wiry) - it's still very soft and doesn't grow longer than about 2-3".

Here's a pic of her coat at about 5 weeks (Luna's on the right, two of her FIVE sisters to the left)

and at about 5 months:

Amazing how these old discussions keep coming back up, lol! Still fun to see the changes!

Wow - I didn't even notice this was an old one!  It showed up in the "recent topics" list, so I'm guessing someone replied recently after doing a search.
