Those of you with shedding doodles. What were their coats like when they were tiny pups? (Straight, curly, wooly, silky, wiry, hairlike?) Do you have any pics of them as new tiny puppies? I am just curious as to whether their are any tried and true predictors of adult coats in a young puppy. And shedding or not all doods are wonderful. I am just curious how breeders advertise a 3 week old puppy as shedding or non shedding that soon.

The doodle that got us started on our doodle mania looks very much like Benny only he is red. He is an F1B but has shorter straighter fur and that wonderful body.
I can imagine Nancy, who can resist that adorable puppy look? That's the reason I cannot wait until my second doodle puppy (in this case a non-shedder) will arrive.
Hello,

You can check out my pictures on my page of Gunner. He doesn't really look like a "normal" doodle. He takes on the golden retriever look, with that said, he sheds much more than the average doodle. I know several & none of them shed like Gunner. He doesn't shed as much as a retriever, but probably 1/2 the amount. However, we love the look of him, so we are ok with the shedding. His hair is wavy, even when wet its not curly. In my experience, the more curl, the less shedding. It also depends on what generation. Gunner is 1st generation, so that too plays a part in it. Hope this helps.

Remington had straight wooly hair... when we got him and still does... he's a shedder... but we still love him :) He's on the far left with his brother and sister :)
How long before you know if a dog is going to be a shedder? Ollie is 9 weeks and so far - no shedding. He is pretty curly and is an F1B
It probably depends, but within a week Rosco was shedding some. I think MOST shedders start off shedding.
I have to say these really are a gorgeous impressive looking group of doodle pups. TV dogs for sure! ALL of them! My 4 yr old is looking and oohing and ahhhing - lol.

Max is a wavy fleece coat and at 11 mths has never shed. Here are pics at 1 day, 2 wks, 3 wks and 8 wks the day before we brought him home.
Max is so cute...I recognized him right away...especially the yellow towel in the picture. I think Echo got the same towel for his bath!!
Which one is he in the litter?
If they shed heavily at 8 weeks, will they always shed?
We have a lab/Australian Shepherd mix and he has a lab coat with an undercoat. We just keep him shaved and it makes him liveable as an indoor dog. He isn't a doodle and we have never cared how he presents himself, only that he doesn't shed so much in the house. Our doodle, Ned doesn't shed. We are still trying to see what our new doodle is doing shed-wise. I am with you about wanting them to look doodley, but when they shed bunches, you might have to make a choice for a shorter coat or living with the fur all over.
