Can anyone tell me the difference in both the look and temperament of a curly haired F1b goldendoodle versus a purebred poodle?  I am torn between the two...

Well as far as looks go... you can pretty much google some pics of poodles and know that they will all look about the same (depending on their haircut).

Now compare what you find when googling poodle photos with this WIDE variety of F1b goldendoodles:

Now as for personality...I think they would both be good and both be similar. The only thing you'd add for the F1b is possibly more golden retriever at times...so if you like golden retrievers and you like standard poodles, personality-wise either the mix or the pure poodle would all be fine.
What kind of dog is this? A doodle or a poodle?

I say, Doodle
That's what I hoped you'd say. But it's a standard poodle from a French breeder who doesn't dock tails.
Point being, of course, that it's really hard to tell the difference between a curly-coated doodle and a poodle who's clipped naturally.
LOVE love the long tail - I really hate docking practices in this country ;(
That was my first thought also - a poodle with undocked tail. We have had both - goldendoodle (F1b) and standard poodle and we think the hair on the poodle is a little more thick and curly. The goldendoodle is a little bit stockier and requires less grooming. Our poodle needed to have a full groom every six weeks, about double that time for the goldendoodle.
What is the difference in termperament/personality of your goldendoodle and poodle?
The goldendoodle is happy and energetic. He will chase ANYTHING that will run. That has been a problem. He loves any kind of water and would love to be a surfer. He goes right in the ocean water after surfers. He also loves any kind of one-on-one attention and will stand for hours for a grooming. He can outlast both my husband and me. We have to have some breaks so we generally do a full grooming in two days. He is fine with being blown off with the air compressor, standing for the hair dryer, brushing his teeth, and having his toenails cut and cleaned. I can't think of anything he will not tolerate. The poodle(s) on the other hand, are more elegant and sophisticated. They also tolerate grooming but with a little less enthusiasm. And there is the ears. Poodles have very hairy insides of their ears and do get ear infections. Our poodles ears were so heavy that he even got water on the ear flaps that had to be drained. I swore I would never let my dogs get this bad and started shaving the insides of their ears at an early age.
Basically, I would say it is the energy level. Goldendoodles are more energetic and need more exercise than poodles. Poodles are fine for just staying in the house and going for a leisurely walk on leash. You better have a little more energy to keep up with a goldendoodle.
Jolie, I know you had also mentioned that your in-laws (?) have a toy poodle. Toy poodles have very different personalities from standards (miniatures can go either way.) Standard poodles are usually much calmer and much more laid-back than the toys. Of course, it does depend a lot on the temperaments of the parents, with any breed or mix.
Yes, they do have a toy poodle who is about a year and a half old. She is adorable (they don't keep her clipped), and can be very sweet but she is also hyper and has a short attention span. I would prefer a dog who is a bit calmer that doesn't need to be entertained constantly. Problem is, I am having trouble finding standard poodle breeders but doodle breeders seem to be all over the place!
As I mentioned in your other discussion, quality purebred breeders do not usually advertise. I will be happy to direct you to some good breeders in our area, or you can contact the Great Lakes Standard Poodle Club; the AKC website will have the information for you.
I contacted the Standard poodle club by email to get some referrals, and have been surfing the web as well... if you could direct me to some good breeders, I would appreciate it. Is it allowable to email me through this website with referrals?
