I Want To Share Photos of the Carlsbad, California Flower Fields

It was a nice sunny day so I drove up the coast 30 miles to visit the Flower Fields and work on our "framing" April assignment.  I walked around and took many pictures.  They are just so beautiful that I wanted to share them with you.

The white flowers are the stars in a field of blue (purple) which makes up the American Flag

And an entire hillside of flowers making the American Flag!!

Unbelievable, I am making reservations to fly out as I type : ). Are these last flowers Clarkias, geraniums more likely I think. I would have plopped Gracie, she wouldn't have hurt a thing and by next year, the powers that be would have forgotten. You may not have woodchucks but you guys sure do know how to do flowers.

Very observant...yes it is a geranium. There were many types so I am not sure of the name. When you first enter the fields there are gardens with arches and fountains with various flowers. If you look at my photo assignment for April, the "framed" flowers are from the same place. All of the fields are the ranunculus in all the colors and the very back row are/were freezias which are the best smelling flower ever. Most of them were on their way out and not pretty to photograph. They also have a rose garden display with what seems like every type possible rose. I photographed that a few years ago but this year I was a little late. They were also on their way out. Tonight I will do another posting of Poinsettias!

Looking forward to it. I adore the smell of freesias but, of course, they are not hardy here. It's funny about smell, there are certain flowers that some people love for their fragrance that I can't stand, like lilies. I hate the smell of privet, too. But roses, freesias, lilacs, honeysuckle-- ahhh. I'm so glad I started his group. Next to doodles, and certainly of longer standing, flowers and plants in general, are a major passion.

How are you on Gardenias? Can you grow those back there? I love their smell. My grandmother introduced me to freesias so whenever I see or smell them all my memories of her come flooding back...good, wonderful memories :)

I know what you mean. fragrances are potent stimulators of memories. I love the smell of gardenis but they are not hardy here--yet. We have camellias now, which was impossible a number of years back.

BEAUTIFUL! Thank you for sharing this. I did see the fields a number of years ago whenever we drove to San Diego, but never seem to be there at the right time. Hopefully I'll still get to see them again this month.

The only thing that would have made these photos of the fields absolutely perfect is if I could have plopped Gracie Doodle right in the middle of them for that "Kodak" moment!!!
