Places that are "doodle" friendly ~ stores, restaurants, etc...... Let's make a list!

Recently I found out that there are places that you can take your doodle that I never would have expected.  Awhile back we were at Cabela's in West Virginia and they have a boarding/doggie daycare for customers that are shopping.  Just a few weeks ago we were out of town and going to Bass Pro Shops in Toledo, Ohio I really didn't want to leave Hunter in our camper while we were gone but I get nervous leaving her in the car that someone would steal her.  I called Bass Pro and asked if maybe they had the same kennel area like Cabela's and I was shocked that they allowed dogs to shop with you in the store.  WOW  it was a great shopping trip, I wasn't board out of my mind walking around with my husband looking at camping, hunting and whatever else.  I got to walk Hunter around :-)

All of this got me thinking there have to be many more stores and even restaurants that allow dogs to come in.  So how about we make a list of any local or national store, etc.  that allows to bring our doodles in.

I willl start making a list and post it and update it as it gets added to!
Stony Point Fashion Park in Richmond VA is my favorite place. Most of the stores in the mall are posted as dog friendly. Our first stop is always Three Dog Bakery. Almost all of the restaurants have outdoor seating. It is a great place to get together with other doodles.
Carytown in Richmond.
Prime Outlet Malls are a great place to exercise our dogs when we are traveling. Grove City, PA...Hagerstown, MD..Williamsburg, VA are some of the ones we have stopped at.
Asking in advance is a nice idea but it puts store staff on the spot. If there is no specific prohibition or if it's not a food store, I go by the adage "It's better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission." If the dog is quiet and well behaved and customers seem to enjoy it, then the staff is likely to let you stay. Or they may ask you to leave and you do. Simple.
AMEN to that! That's how I treated Home Depot. I just waltzed in with Rosco in heel (we went for training anyway and he'd already had a lot of lessons in heel so he was decent at it and around distractions) and we did all sorts of heel, halt, stay work in there. Nobody raised an eyebrow or bothered us. LOTS wanted to pet him so we got lots of practice sit staying for that. Eventually we got a "Therapy Dog in Training" vest and that also helped, but probably for the wrong reasons (because people don't know the diff between therapy and service). Your dog's level of training DOES make a difference in how it is perceived. If it's pulling and panting and looking like it will go nuts if the leash slips out of your hands...you probably won't be welcomed too kindly.

A very good friend of ours works there and a while later I asked him if dogs are allowed, because I always take Rosco. He said no :-( But since nobody ever said anything (and I've seen other non-service dogs there too) I continue to take him when I can. The only thing to remember (which F Parker mentioned) is if you don't know or are going against supposed rules that you be prepared to leave if asked to leave.
So, you are saying I will have to be able to tolerate rejection. Hmmm. I am still not over being thrown out of Home Depot :-) Me and my therapy dog. I just can't believe it.
One really funny thing that kept happening at Bass Pro Shop is Hunter would see display manequine looking all "human" like and she would go over and get all excited waiting for it to pet her! It was HILARIOUS! Then she would walk away like "what never they didn't want to pet me humph!"
this is too funny ......
Darwin does this kind of thing too. When we are at Old Navy, he always tries to sniff the plastic dog's butt. Makes me laugh every time.
The Nordstrom at The Grove in Southern California allows dogs. There are a couple doodle owners who visit there frequently. I've never been, but I've seen their posts on another forum.

I think most restaurants allow dogs in the outdoor seating area, but don't know for sure. All the restaurants in my town do anyway.

Starbucks allows dogs in the outdoor area in my town...I've even seen an Italian greyhound indoors.
We also have several stores downtown that have "Dogs welcome" signs on the outside.

(Hint, hint: everyone should feel free to come visit me in Walla Walla and bring your doods!)
You are definitely in a part of the country that DH and I have always wanted to visit. Now that we have the doods and plan doodle friendly vacations only, we will have to starting planning a trip out that way. Only problem is that since it is so far it will have to be put on the list for after retirement for DH which hopefully will not be but a couple years at the most! Walla Walla sounds like a lovely town!
Sounds good to me! And by then we should have two doodles again =)
We can start a caravan, and all show up at Adina's!
