My 6 month LD gets motion sickness when riding in the car,  We would like to take him out more but don't want him to get sick.  We try to wait hours after eating.  Last tIme we took him out he did vomit twice.  Any suggestions on how to help our Yogi get out and travel,

do a search on car sickness or carsick and you will find several previous discussions on this topic. Many have had the problem and with a little time and effort have been able to solve the problem I believe. Good Luck.

Sometimes they outgrow this themselves - our lab mix did. My vet suggested that we NOT feed them whatever meal came before the ride and to limit water also. He also said that the floor had the least movement. My mom uses an anxiety medication for her Westie. I think there are lots of things you can try and there have been discussions. I know someone mentioned stages like: putting the dog in the car and starting it but going nowhere, then just backing out of the driveway, then around the block, then short trips.

My nearly four year old GD Molly often got motion sick when she was a puppy. Short rides, long rides... it was random. It was very frustrating since going to the vet or puppy class was less than 10 minutes away, and she'd often vomit. I found several things that helped... distract her with a favorite safe toy in the car, talk to her, ensure she relieved herself before getting in the car, and that the temperature inside the car was cold (yes, even in winter). Thankfully, it seems to have ended as she turned one. We've traveled all over New England and love going to Cape Cod! Hope this helps!

Make it short
Make it a good experiance
Have lots of rewards
Place the food and the dash~~ eyes to the horizon
Sit the dog forward and up front ( we placed a blanket on top of plastic crate so she could sit high in between the bucket seats)
What we did not do... was a seatbelt but I highly recommend this method also. :) Wish I would have started this with puppies.
