For those who are involved with Delta Society, I'm a little confused on exactly how this works now that Sophie is registered with them. We have been for the last several months going to a few places that have their own independent programs and didn't require her testing with Delta or any other society. Do I need to get them to complete some sort of paperwork to be officially associated with Delta in order for the insurance to cover me, or am I covered anywhere that allows us to visit? It seems most places around here (we are small town) don't have formal programs that require the different testing. But I don't want to do anything that voids the insurance. Thanks for any input.
I think the bare minimum is that you have a signed agreement with the facility that states what type of visits you'll have, frequency, and that you will be complying with Delta's policies and procedures. Both you and the facility should keep a copy. The facility does not need to become a Delta facility (although Delta would like them to, as it gets them a fee, and some extra visibility). I believe there is a sample agreement on the website, or in the book. The other thing you'll need to do is make sure that you sign in and out. If the facility does not have something for you to do this, make one out of a small spiral pad. Just something where you'll indicate your name, date, time in and time out. Aside from that, you need to be wearing your Delta ID, and the dog needs to wear the Delta tag, and using approved equipment, and following any possible restrictions on your registration. (whew... that ended up a little long)
