Darwin does this funny thing where sometimes, when he is sniffing something, or looking at a bird or person, he will freeze, lift and fold his paw, and his tail will go straight out. Just like a pointing breed. It surprised me when he first started doing it... because I don't think Poodles or Goldens do much pointing...
Anyone else? Here is an example of what I'm talking about
our labradoodle, raleigh, will sometimes point before he chases after our cat. this is a behavior (the cat chasing) we are trying to curb in him, but whether or not he points lets us know how "serious" he is about the chase.
Oh My Gosh! Yes! Tori does do this... I'll have to catch her and snap a picture... can't believe you posted this... this intrigued me too about Tori!!! must be the doodle in them as the 'other half' of Tori isn't golden, but aussie... LOL
This is so funny that I found this discussion! My husbund and I were just talking about Cooper doing this just this weekend! He does it all the time when he is in the back yard and see something he wants to chase.
Peri does it when she sees birds. She is very, very still and then she lunges at them. I think she would make a good bird dog if it weren't for her chewing problem - she doesn't have the softest mouth!
Dalai will stand over our cats with excitement and her tail wagging briskly. I know this isn't a friendly wag but an excited wag and will pounce if the cats dart away. No, I haven't seen her point, but she is a goldendoodle and maybe it is a labrador thing.
Darwin is a Goldendoodle as well, so it doesn't seem to be limited to only labs. :-) That is so funny about the cats, Darwin hasn't seen very many, so I'm not sure how he acts around them. Got to work on that!
My doodle Sasha does this when she sees rabbits. When we go out for our night walk, she walks on her toes, almost prancing, then if she sees a rabbit, she does the pointing thing. It's too funny!
