I saw on the site that someone writing about quirky things that their doodle does. I tried to join in the discussion but I wan't a member of that group so I thought I'd start another b/c this seemed like it could be funny. Sonny does so many little quirky things but the funniest thing he does is rest or sleep with a tennis ball in his mouth. He just kind of lays there with it inside his mouth. One of these days when I upload my new photos I will post a pic.
My husband and I talk all the time about how "quirky" our dogs are and often say, "It must be a doodle thing!" Our two have so many little odd behaviors but here are some of my favorites. Fenway will squawk (it's this funny bark/growl/howl thing she does that my husband calls squawking) at us if she thinks we've been gone too long or if we're not doing something fast enough for her or just about any time she feels agravated with us for whatever reason. It's so funny and makes us laugh every time. Dustin likes to carry the leash in his mouth and walk himself and/or Fenway. Sometimes I'll have to leave their leashes on for a minute when I get home so I can unload my arms and Dustin will be prancing around the house with Fenway's leash in his mouth leading her around. Fenway is not too fond of this, but I think it's absolutely precious. Then again there isn't too much about my doodles that I think isn't precious!
You should definitely join the group. I bet it's the does you doodle... group and it's a great group to be a part of. So many funny little things that these doodles do that are specific to doodles it seems. You would love it!
I LOVE hearing these stories! I've been experiencing one of Callie's other quirks this afternoon. We're having a thunderstorm and while Callie loves to play in the rain, she's not such a fan of thunder. I was on the sofa (being lazy) and she was laying on the floor. One clap of thunder - Callie leaps onto the sofa. A few minutes later, thunder again and she moves closer to me. This continues until she is COMPLETELY draped over me. I pet her, tell her it's ok and she goes back on to the floor....then it starts all over again.
Callie - my "quirk", as the humans are calling it, with Thunder is the opposite... I run to the door because I want to go outside and investigate. I think I get this from my human mom... she loves thunderstorms and will sit and watch them with me :o) I love when we do that!!!
I thought my doodle was the only with these crazy quirks. Max sleeps just like Sonny does and he'll carry his leash in his mouth when he's on one. But my favorite thing that he does is, after he takes a dring of water, he jumps on the couch running back and forth from end to end and then he sticks his head in between the cushions, but he gets it really far down, you can't see his neck. It is absolutely histerical! My kids keep telling me we should video him and send it to America's Funniest Videos.
When we say, "Hey Toby, want to bat a ball?" he will run and find the nearest squeaky toy and use it as a bat or club to knock a ball around the house. He's such a funny dog! Here's a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IY_NVycBsI
Our Mycroft always heads up to bed with me, as I tend to go to bed earlier than my husband. My husband, however, always has cheese and crackers, before going to sleep and Mycroft dearly loves cheese. He'll sleep soundly under our bed but as soon as he hears the frig open, he bolts downstairs to escort my husband to bed. They share a slice of cheese before ascending the stairs, then Mycroft waits on the bed for his three tidbits of cheese. He stares at the cheeseboard, then at my husband, back and forth, back and forth until he gets his cheese. If he has to wait, he'll sigh and drape himself over my husband, dramatically waiting but never stealing. Once he's had his cheese, he hops off the bed and selects his sleeping spot for the evening -- either on his bed, under our bed or by the doorway.
I can just imagine Mycroft sighing and draping himself dramatically over your husband to get his attention. haha!
These doodles have just a sweet way of communicating with us.
When our little Foster Boy Jett first came to our house he would not with any amount of coaxing get up on the furniture. He would however plant every single ounce of himself that he could on your lap while keeping his two back feet planted firmly on the floor. He could literally be all the way up in your face, but his feet would remain on the floor. As he got more and more used to being at our house and you would coax him he would bring one foot up and try to pull himself onto the sofa but you would have to reach down and get his behind and pull him up. By the time he left us he would jump all the way up but always still wanted to be in your lap or laying on top of you. He was so loving but so gentle. Our girls will lay with you or beside you but aren't lap dogs so it was nice to have him be so lovey!
Our Lucy has a favorite toy that is a small bone shaped toy made from fleece. It is filthy and worn, but is her favorite. She will walk around with it in her mouth and just howl (very loudly -- the saddest sound in the whole world). She will go from room to room looking for somewhere to put it safely. Finally, 9 times out of 10 she will just walk over to Sophie and lay it down beside her. Not sure why that is a safe spot, but it seems to make her happy.
Our Sophie is a total attention Hound. If Lucy is getting petted and they are on the other side of Lucy, Sophie will jump over top of Lucy to get in between that person and Lucy so they will pet her and not Lucy. She is the same way with us, if we are petting Lucy, she will come from the other room and position herself between us.
When we first got HoosierDoodle, my husband noticed he would "bare his teeth." At first, my husband thought it was a growling action or sign of aggression, but, in fact, it's a grimace. He squints his eyes and makes that grimace face anytime he's done something naughty and knows he's in trouble. It's hilarious!!!
He will also try to nudge his way right between my husband and me anytime we are hugging...Talk about an attention hound! And he thinks he's a lap dog, all 85 lbs. of him! He has no idea how big he is...
He's smiling! How cute! We had a lab mix years ago that would smile when he was really happy. It looked kind of scary sometimes - lol! It would take you aback if you didn't know better . ha! :)
