I'm a freelance writer and editor - that's why I have days like today with lots of down time for DK. :) I've been published but most of it is embarrassing, so we'll leave it at that!
Believe it or not, I write lyrics for advertising jingles for a living. Crazy, huh?! lol! My husband and I have a company called Bell Music Productions. (http://www.bellmusicproductions.com) We produce theme songs for radio shows, music for theme parks, demos/CDs for singers, and jingles for close to 2,000 companies, nationally. Typically, I will do the creative call with a business owner or an Account Executive at a radio station to gather information about a company... then I will write a few sets of lyrics... once lyrics are approved, I give them to my husband who writes/produces the music and hires vocalists to come sing them... then I play it for the client over the phone and get the "Yes!" I'm great at closing on the sale. (My husband is an amazingly gifted/talented composer/orchestrator/arranger. The jingles are just something he does to pay the mortgage while he works on his own music. We're lucky to be able to have fun working together, doing what we love. We've been married close to 30 years.)
I'm working on two non-fiction books at the moment. One is a how-to book for musicians who want to get into the business of producing jingles. The other is a 3-in-1 reference book for writers/lyricists/copywriters.
I also enjoy writing stories for children's books. One of these days I hope to write a young adult historical fiction about an ancestor of mine who was a Revolutionary War Captain, named Isaac Ross, Jr. When he died, he left instructions in his Will to sell his entire plantation to give his slaves free passage back to Africa, and set up a college for them. This turned into a 12 year Supreme Court battle. His Will was finally deemed valid. It's a fascinating true story - a real roller coaster ride. (I learned about him in a genealogy binder that my late uncle gave to me. Cool, huh?!)
I would love to connect with some other writers on DK!
My biz partner Kerry Zukus and I spent years ghostwriting for others. After working for some of the most notorious, unscrupulous publishing houses in the biz we decided that it was time to start our own company and offer professional, honest and ethical publishing services as an alternative....
Hi Jacquie! I just checked out your Small Page Press - what a wonderful service you provide! That's awesome! And I would LOVE to get your demo reel! Please email it to linda@bellmusicproductions.com Here's a link to our jingle demo reel: http://bellmusicproductions.com/clientdownloads/jing.mp3 We have about six "first call" male/female vocalists that we use on most of our jingles, but once in awhile we get in a bind because we can only place them in the same market twice. So, if another project comes in for that market, we have to scramble to find someone else. I have a couple others that I can call, but I'm always looking for new talent. :)
I love writing but only for myself. I journal every day and I keep specific journals over Remington so when he's gone I can look back on life with him. I have a journal that looks back over Dan and I's relationship, journals that my mom has filled out over her life, journals that my grandma has filled out about her life, etc. My goal is to keep journals until the day I'm gone and then my children can find them and have them to remember me by. We'll see how that works out as life gets busier :)
I love to write, and am considering going into Journalism as a career. I ever written a book or anything. Just school papers, and my personal blog. :-)
