I love to read and I have "downstairs" books and "upstairs" books. The downstairs ones are the more serious ones, or the more contemporary novels everyone reads. Upstairs though, is a whole different story. These are the books in my "I wouldn't be caught dead reading this on an airplane" category. Topping the list for me is the Twilight Saga. I loved these books. They tapped into some small reserve of teen romance and angst that I wasn't aware that I possessed.  My embarrassment over these books has nothing to do with the books themselves. Everyone I know has read them...including my friend's 12 year old daughter and all of her friends.

One of my friends "confessed" to reading the Vampire Diaries books with such angst that I thought she was going to tell me she was having an affair.

I agree, I do not consider it a guilty pleasure. They are awesome reads for anyone, any age. I am a major Harry Potter nerd and proud of it! :-)
I agree - to me, Harry Potter isn't really guilty (maybe because I read far, far worse books!). Love all of the Harry Potter books!
It is so funny about upstairs and downstairs books!!
I only have one floor so for me it's "bedroom" and "BATHROOM" books.....lol!
Okay, I just realized I do have a guilty pleasure, and a really terrible one, too. I love those true crime books, the more horrific the murders, the better.
Of course, some of them are pretty good literature. In Cold Blood is a masterpiece, of course, but there are quite a few others that are very well written.
As a result of this guilty pleasure, I am very knowledgable about all the famous psychokillers, lol.
Uh oh, I forgot how much I like the true crime also Karen! I think I have read every biorgraphy or story on serial killers :O
I became interested in true crime about a year ago, but I got so scared after reading about it I would get nightmares. :-( apparently I'm not mature enough yet? ha ha.
Try reading them only in the daytime. That helps.
LOL- years ago, I was reading Helter Skelter, and was afraid to go down to the basement to get the laundry out of the dryer. I made my husband go with me.
You could be like Joey from Friends and keep the scary books in the freezer. I love the Showtime series, Dexter, but I'm always way behind on it because I don't like to watch it at night.
I love it when he starts reading Little Women and has to put that one in the freezer too. One of my all-time favorite Friends moments.
Karen - I too read the true crime books and am so familiar with all the famous killers that I recently had a dream that my friends and I were at a Serial Killer Symposium and that we roomed with Jeffery Dahmer! Oy!
