what about hair obscuring my doodles view? Seems to me that no matter how cute it is, the hair really ought to be cut away from their eyes.

Ideas> Advice?

We trim to keep it out of Buddy's eyes. We figure it helps him see better and we love his big brown eyes. I have used scissors (safety) with the help of my husband and also small trimmers (my husbands). It is a little challenging sometime. But I figure the more he gets used to it now the easier it will be when he is older. Good luck!

I know the director of IDOG believes strongly in trimming hair around eyes...supposedly not only does it obscure vision otherwise but it interferes with normal canine communication.

Hello...it's me again...Susan...(smile)

Everytime I see your two beautiful dogs...and the "fabulous" job you do with their grooming...I can't help but to comment...even if just to myself...on how amazing they look.

I know that I asked you before who your groomer was...and you told me that you groom them yourself...and you scissor cut.

I just love a scissor cut...and am finding it hard to find a groomer who does one.

I'm looking in North Jersey and in South Carolina.

Sasha's coat looks very much like your "white" coat dog.....but her back looks like the "cocoa" colored dog. (I'm very sorry that I don't know which one is Calla or Luca...but...If I were to guess...I would say...Calla is the white dog and Luca is the cocoa colored dog...but...I might be wrong... lol...

It's funny how doodle coats are dfferent on varioius parts of their bodies...and...I actually don't know what Sasha's adult coat will look like...since she is still going through the "Wonderful Coat Change" from puppy to adult.,

I wonder if I will survive this??!!

If I've made this statement once...I've made it a dozen time...but...I'm getting ready to take her for her very first "professional" cut!!

Try as I might...I just can't keep up with all of the matting...and I think it's time to take the plunge!!

I just seem to say it...but...not do it!! (smile)

But...for her sake...and for mine...I think I'm getting very close to "REALLY" doing it..."Very Soon" Now!! lol...

Anyway...with all of that said...I seem to have to cut the hair around Sasha's eyes...very often...as her hair grows sooooo fast!

She is really good at just laying there and letting me do anything I want with her...so that's good!

I think that I just might have to cut it shorter than I have been...and...I know that when she gets her "summer cut"...EVERYTHING will be much...much shorter!!

I just wonder if I'll still be saying that I'm getting ready to take her for her very first cut...months from now!! (smile)

Thank you so much and you've guessed right. Calla above, Luca below. Why don't you try it yourself first and you can always take Sasha in to be done afterwards if you feel you need too. I've probably said that before, too : ) You will survive!

I have some questions...but pleae forgive me if this is not the right place to ask them....

I'm still learning the ropes here...(smile)

I have thought about trying to groom Sasha myself...as you suggested...but...she does have a lot of mats...which I have been working on...using cowboy majic...my fingers...les pooch brushes...and a wonderful steel comb. They just keep on coming...and I just can't get them all out! That is why I feel the need to cut her shorter while she is going through her "coat change".

Can I scissor cut...even while she has mats...or...do all mats have to be out first?
I just can't seem to get all of the mats out..

When there is a mat...how do I handle that?
Can you please explain how to cut under the mat??
I am not afraid to try...and am quite good with scissors.

Any help would be sooooo appreciated.

My Vet advised me to be sure to keep the hair away from their eyes. She said it's uncomfortable for them when it's obscuring their vision and, as Adina said, it gets in the way of their communication with other dogs. Guinness is groomed regularly, so that takes care of it for him. I bring Murph into Petco every few weeks, and they do an "eye trim" for $6.00...I'm too scared to do it myself because he's so "squirmy".

I too cut the hair away from Darwin's eyes. I didn't expect it, but he has been WAY more alert and prompt to follow commands now that he has his summer cut. I think it may be due to the fact that he can see more now!

This is funny because DH and I just looked at Peri this morning and said 'time to clip the hair from around her eyes". She can't see us very well and that is when it is time!
