Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

When we brought Maple home we were at a loss what to name her. She
looked like Chewbacca from Star Wars but that didn't pass the vote. We
surveyed friends and family and "Maple" fit, but I always remembered
that Chewbacca discussion and catching my husband late one night after
I went to bed, watching the Star Wars DVD to look at Chewbacca. So we
incorporated it into her "formal" or "show" name even though she does
not have papers. She is "Princess Maple Chewbacca of Ingleside".
When Lucky came along we had our reasons for naming her Lucky but also gave
her the formal name of "Duchess Lucky Stormtrooper of Calverton". Lucky
is white so the Stormtrooper thing fits. We live on Ingleside Drive in
the community of Calverton and Maple is the alpha dog so she's the princess. The weird thing
is that we are not Star Wars fanatics - it just happened!

This cracked me up! I think your DH picked a great name!
Karen and Nancy, I will tell the DH he did a good job. It will probably go to his head, but I will throw him this one bone :) Thanks.
Cracked me up too!  I would never have thought of food!  But Vern is great! My DH loves Vernors soda still!
I love the name and wish I had thought of it myself!
Our two Brittany Spaniels were Gumbo and Roux (living outside New Orleans)
Winston was the last name on the list and I was looking for a British name. I knew that I was getting a male, so I must have started with 20 names. My list kept getting shorter and in the end there was Winston and when I saw him the name fit. Freya was from an 'F" litter and so I went through alot of female "f" names. Because there were two kennel names on her AKC registration the name had to be short. Both of her patents were from Germany so having a Scandinavian name worked. Plus Freya is the goddess of love in Scandinavian folklore.
Kachi got his name after my husband and I couldn't decide between a long list of names. Once we went up to pick him up, my husband said that he looked just like our daughter's beloved stuffed bear -Kache Bear (who still resides w/ my daughter in NYC. She's now 25!) We didn't want them to have EXACTLY the same names, so hence, we have KACHI BEHR!

And when we got Halle-naming her was easy. We thought she was the most beautiful puppy ever...so she became HALLE BEHR E!
Liza, I named two dogs after stuffed bears! I always thought I was the only one who did that!
This is how we came up with the name Matilda.

Labradoodle's were first bred in 1989 in Australia as hypo-allergenic service dogs. My limited knowledge of Australia helped name Matilda. The song "Waltzing Matilda" came into mind and that's what we named her. We call her Mati for short, which if not brushed is an appropriate name. Her middle name is Velcro because EVERYTHING sticks to her coat.
love it!
How unusual is that for everyone to agree as to the best name. Great!
My dog Kirby, is named after the Kirby vacuum cleaner. Her middle name MacKenzie is just because I wanted a Scottish name. (Her Dad is Dundee)
I met a lady at puppy class and her dogs were Havoc, Chaos and Mayhem!
