Do you have any good suggestions for training / trick teaching books?

Yes, Stanley Coren's books are wonderful. They don't give specific trick tips, but they do provide wonderful insight into how your dog's brain works. And a lot of information on the most effective way to communicate with your dog. Lots of great scientific information, as well as entertaining examples and stories. Loved them!

I like "Reaching the Animal Mind" by Karen Pryor. She's a big advocate of clicker training, but this book goes beyond that and discusses how how clicker training works, and why it works.

I've always wondered HOW people trained their dogs with those. Thanks for sharing the info on this book. :)

I have the squeaker thingie that was inside of a squeaky toy that Toby chewed up. When I want him to come in from the back yard, I open the door and squeak it a couple of times. He usually comes FLYING IN to get a reward treat. It sure beats calling for him over and over!

- Idiots Guide I am too inept and attention deficit to work on tricks, but my daughter-in-law is really into that kind of stuff and this is one she uses for 'fun' tricks.

I found this book called "Doggin'Pittsburgh". It's not a training book, but lists 50 best places around South West PA to hike with your dog!! On the back, it states that there are other books in the series that showcases other locations!
