Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I took Mousse for his first haircut on Tues.  I personally would love to leave him long as I LOVE the shaggy doodle look, but my trainer (who's also a groomer) said he should be cut down to help shed his puppy coat and my husband wanted him cut also.  I took him to a groomer that's bathed him before, and they're also a doggie day care so he gets to play before his bath :)  Everyone is very nice there, and they do at least one other Goldendoodle, so I felt comfortable with them.  The cut looks cute, but I noticed that night he started dragging his but a little on the floor when he sits down.  He's never done this before, and I don't think it's his glands.  I think they shaved too close : \  Is that normal, or do you pros think I should find another groomer.  My gut feeling is that they should know better...but I may just be paranoid.  Is Mousse just extra sensitive?  Also, what can I do to make his poor tushie feel better ? :(

There are different options as to what could have happened. The least worrisome is the feeling of air on a place that was previously covered. It's like a big tickle. My dogs always do strange antics if they haven't had a sani shave for a while. If it was the first shave in that area, it will feel very weird to the dog. This can last a couple of days.
If there is redness of the skin, or swelling, you may be dealing with a scrape or burn. That we don't want to see. Check the area thoroughly and see if you think it is a behaviour thing or not. If not, call the groomer and let them know what's going on. Their reaction will be the clue as to whether you need a new groomer or not. The problem should be handled in a professional, caring way. The groomer may want to see the dog to find out what's going on.
Good Luck.
This is my first dog...so how do I put this....I've never been up close and personal with a dog's behind before I don't know what it should look like, but it does look kind of red. I will definitely call the groomer and see what they say. As a side note, how close are they supposed to shave there? It's very close right now, like I can see so much skin, and even just as am aesthetic preference, I don't really like that area so prominent looking. If it needs to be that short, that's ok, I'm just totally clueless about this stuff.
Guess we need some pictures!
A little hydrocortisone cream may be soothing for him.
