I know this has been the topic of many previous discussions, but I wanted to know if any of you have suggestions about the actual application of this treatment.  I am clumsy and my pup is big and clumsy...lol so between the two of us we will probably be purple after this ordeal is over.  Most people say to simply squirt it in the ear....this will be easier said than done for my big boy...Does anyone do anything differently or special to avoid a huge purple mess?  Will it actually stain his fur?  I will be doing this outside, so I'm most concerned that my beautiful cream colored boy will be purple when he undoubtedly tries to shake this stuff out.

Gentian violet, which is the active ingredient in the blue ear treatments, does stain...hair, walls, clothes, etc. One of the reasons it fell out of favor as a treatment for human yeast infections.
Make sure you shake it up good and warm it slightly. I put the bottle in a cup of warm water. I worried about the staining and the purple mess but it hasn't happened...yet. I squirt it in the ear and then massage the ear for a minute or so, then gently wipe the inside of the ear with a soft cloth or paper towel. When they "shake" their ear, there isn't that much left in there. Just don't overfill the ear and there will be less chance of staining. Good Luck!
