We only give Snickers a tray cookie about twice a week. My friend who has a Pug said the dog should have a cookie 2-3 times a day so they aren't hungry. What do
you all think? We feed Snicks breakfast and dinner and he gets training treats when we are in training mode. But extras like banana cookies from Blue Buffalo are doled out sparingly and always earned with a stay, shake, down. My friend has me worried that we are depriving him.
It sounds like you're, at least, using treats for training/obedience rewards. Very different than someone who thinks "dogs need snacks" so many times a day for hunger prevention =)
Sometimes I think I might not give Wilson enough he is 80# but nice and fit He Love going to someone's pocket to look for treats, But I just give him one when we are training too!! He has a new nick name in class Pocket Stealer :-( He really is good other than trying to get extra treats
I really don't believe in treats. We have the natural chicken jerkey treats in Gracie Doodle's jar and the only time I really give her one is if I am leaving and she is at the door sad because I am leaving her behind. Usually she is on our bed sleeping when I (we) leave and doesn't get a treat. My husband is the problem with the treats. She brings him the ball while he is reading the newspaper so he gets up and gives her a treat. I get so mad at him because he is using the treat as a cop out. She wants his attention not the treat. He also likes to break up the chicken jerkey and sprinkle it on her food in her bowl. This drives me crazy. He thinks she needs a little perk to her food. I don't!! Basically, other than for a reward now and then and training I don't use them. The treats make US feel better...not the dog!
