So, how do you keep a doodle puppy from jumping and running after a neuter??

Colter was supposed to get neutered two weeks ago (when it was so hot here that he had no energy anyway) but I got so sick we had to reschedule.  So, yesterday they did him.

After one day, Colter is feeling pretty dang good after his snip snip.  Trying to keep him down and calm has been anything but possible.  He's got a cone but can't figure out how to eat/drink with it on, so, while I'm home, it's off.  But the running and playing, even in the house is, in a word, impossible.

And he hates, hates, hates the crate.  He jumps around in there even more.

HELP!!

Wilson jumped and leaped on his leash all the way from the vet's office to my jeep!! In fact I peeked at his groin thinkng they had skipped him!! Nope,,they were gone! No cone..didnt sleep the rest of the day away like I was hoping. Slept all night..I could never tell he had the "snip snip". He was fine..kept him as calm as I could by laying by him and petting him. Good Luck!
We had the same problem with Murph. I had to keep him away from Guinness completely. I spent a lot of time just sitting with him and petting and trying to keep him calm....it wasn't easy. He was always leash walked. He hated it....but it's only for a few days. Good luck!
My vet told me 2 weeks. So I've got 13 days to go. YIKES!!
I know...my Vet said two weeks too. With Murph that was just impossible. By the second week, I gave him more freedom (just watched closely so things didn't get crazy).
I'll just keep watching him. I had to leave for a while today so left him in the yard with Cody (Colter had his cone on). When I came home I checked him and everything seems good. He sure doesn't act like had surgery. He's his old self, except that he now runs into door molding and knocks things off tables. If I didn't feel such empathy for him I'd be laughing out loud. It is pretty dang funny.

Thanks for the encouragement!
Hi Loril, I'm glad Colter is feeling so well. One thing you may try is getting little boys underwear. If you put them on him and his tail through the hole, you may be able to keep the cone off without fear of him getting to the stitches. Just a thought...anyway, glad he's doing well.
We kept the neutered doodle on a leash while he was recooperating. It was easy to keep Dexter calm, but when we got Kirby neutered, the 2 of them just wanted to play and it was really tough. We only lasted about 4-5 days before we couldn't control it anymore and they were off wrestling (not that I recommend that). Try taking him for walks to burn the energy or playing calm controlled fetch in a small area.

Glad he is feeling so good ;)
