Hi everyone, my goldendoodle is 7 months old now. My wife and I had been discussing getting a dog for a few years now but an opportunity came by and we jumped on the chance. My question is does anyone have an idea what Chloe's final weight might be? The mother was a 50lb golden and the dad was a 10lb poodle. We expected her to be around 35lbs or so but at 7 months chloe is 45lbs! We thought we were getting a mini lol. Our vet was also shocked at her size when we told her about her parents.
Hello Carlos, after reading so much about Goldendoodles before getting mine; I read that it is not an exact science as far as the adult weight of the doodle. Many people out there will tell you that you need to add the weight of the parents and divide that by 2 to get the result. However is not the case in many doodles, specialy the ones that are standard. Aside all these I hope you are enjoying your Goldendoodle as much as I am enjoying mine.
The formula does not work on for the smaller doodles, however I don't think Chloe is going to be small! When you get that first cross especially, just remember that the dog could take after one parent much more than the other parent - it is not an average between the parents.
I agree with Nancy--so many people have expected a small doodle and gotten a larger one. It just isn't that easy to tell what the final size willl be. If she is 45 lbs now, I would guess that she will be close to 60 lbs. My smaller doodle was 27 lbs at 7 mo and now weighs 37 lbs, so she got about 25 % bigger. This same formula (which I am just making up!) would put your GD at 57 lbs. My Australian LD weighs 46 lbs and was in the high 30s at 8 months when I got her. She was supposed to top out at about 35 lbs, so it is JUST a guess!
I have a mini doodle - Peri's parents were 50 and 15 pounds. She is 25 pounds, but has a brother that is full-grown and is 40 pounds. I think your sweet Chloe will probably be a wonderful size - closer to her mother's weight. But you can never tell! 50 pounds is still nice for a doodle :) My inlaws have one about that size and she is perfect.
