OK, now-there is a lot of background to this story, but since the gentleman who acted in the manner I am questioning didn't know it-I won't include it. Although-some of you who know Sadie and my story will have an advantage. Here is the scenario. It is a Hot, hot, hot, and super humid Sunday in July. While out on a Sadie outing with my partner (who is driving) we pass an orchard that has a wonderful store which sells assorted orchard veges, fruits, and some bakery items-that are amazing. It is rare we get out to this location. So, my spouse parks me and Sadie in the shade in the absolute furthest space available and leaves the car running while running into the store. No-not earth, enviro friendly. I know. But, like I mentioned earlier-a lot of background to the story. This is what happens a few minutes later. An elderly man who I watched play with two young girls feeding the ducks (I actually reviewed 1 man CPR in my head over).....knocks on my window......I roll it down a crack-and he says, " Next time leave the dog home"! I used the sweetest voice I could conjure up, and said, "Please mind your own business".  Now-fellow doodlers, I need to know, would you do or not do that I did; and why if you care to share? and, Would you do or not do what he did; and why if you care to share?

I do this with Callie frequently. I know it doesn't help my carbon footprint but I like to take Callie with me to run errands and she can't go in everywhere. I will lock her in the car with the AC on and take my spare key with me. People are busybodies.
Gee, I've always been afraid to leave a car on and locked with the dogs inside while I ran an errand inside. I thought they could knock the car into drive somehow, unless they were in their seatbelts. I thought about doing it with the spare key...Do you think this is alright? It sure would help sometimes. I hate leaving them outsied a store when we come from the park or beach and I need to pick up something, or have to drive all the way home, then go back out again....do other people leave their dogs in the running car?
I am terrified of this. I am scared someone will break in and steal her or something. I am paranoid I guess and don't take the dogs unless DH is with me (and one of us can stay in the car) OR if I am going directly to the destination OR if I can take them inside.
I'm the same way. I never leave a dog alone in a car. Jack (and every other dog I've ever had) is miserable when I even leave him in the car with someone. He's happier at home, and I can do my errand with peace of mind instead of worrying about him. If it works for others, that's great, but it isn't for me.
I just realized that in the context of this discussion, I might have just sounded like that loony old man. So I have to clarify, I don't think there's anything wrong in sitting with your dog in a cool comfortable car while someone else runs into a store. In fact, I don't even understand what the old guy meant; I keep trying to figure out if he was trying to be friendly and just meant, "See, if you'd left the dog at home, you could have gone inside, too."
We did that this past weekend. We took Allie with us to visit my brother and sister-in-law over the weekend. On the way home we stopped by to visit my father-in-law at his retirement home. He is not doing well. Anyway we left Allie locked in the car with the AC on. She did great and it was the cutest thing to see her in the driver's side window looking out. When she saw us her whole bootie was just a shaking. Perfect pick me up after a not so pleasant visit.
She didn't get to go in the home to visit ..... they would have probably loved to have her visit.
Huh? That was very polite of you! I would have to have been far ruder....' leave yourself at home next time....mate'.
He was just jealous about your cute doodle thats all
Uh wow. I take Blaze lots of places and I automatic start the car with the AC on so he is comfortable. I think the man should have minded his business. I would have probably told him off.
Gosh no one has ever said anything to me...I do it alot and especially on the way to the beach.
Maybe he was jealous that he doesn't have a doodle!
