Today I read this post on the Doodle Zoo from a long time supporter.  http://disc.yourwebapps.com/discussion.cgi?disc=228724;article=8703...

Please read it.  Before reading it I did not know what to believe now we all know the truth.

Hard and indeed very courageous! I give Kate lots of credit.
I understand the pain she is in to realize that someone she considered a friend can do something so awful!
She stood behind B for so long and to see that what people were saying about her was true must have been shattering!
Kate - I applaud you for writing what must have been so very, very hard!!
Yes you do Nancy. I just Googled it yesterday and read about this. You may mean you don't keep up with it, nor do I.
This does clarify so many questions I have had. My Guinness does have RM heritage, as do so many ALDs. I do still wonder if the situation has always been this bad at RM or if it has deteriorated significantly in recent years. This posting certainly took great courage.
The situation with RM and TP has always been and continues to be all about money ...not about dogs.....
True!
Does anyone know if there was a similar situation with Tegan Park? Guinness's bloodlines are a combination of RM and TP. I know that "it's all family", so I'm thinking there may be the same issues. Is it safe to assume that all ALDs have either TP or RM heritage if you go back far enough? Since these were the founders of the ALD "breed" I'm thinking that would be the case.
TP had horrendous problems going many years back. In fact, even when people still thought RM was "the best of the best", the problems at TP were fairly well known. When the situation in FL got to crisis point, many of their dogs were dumped in a kill shelter and died of parvo, despite offers of help from rescue groups.
Angela of TP is still churning out poodle mix puppies of uncertain heritage & health, this time tiny toys. If you look at the websites that Kate mentions in her original post, you can get info there.
Basically, I believe all ALDs have RM and TP backgrounds. But I take some comfort in the fact that my dogs were born here and their parents were health tested.
Yes, there are many excellent breeders of ALDs here in the states who have been aware of the problems with some of the RM & TP dogs for a long time, and they are scrupulous about health testing. Many of them tried to warn people years ago about these issues, but they too were met with denial, hostility, and worse.
Sometimes I look at my Bella ( miniature cafe au lait ALD originally purchased and shipped from Rutland Manor) and I picture her as a scared, 8 week old puppy in the cargo hold of an airplane for nearly 32 hours...(Australia to Hawaii, to CA to TX to TN) and knowing what conditions that she came from it just breaks my heart....

When I look at her paperwork and see that her original owner paid $4950!!! for her (including shipping) I become instantly enraged....
What??? I thought the Australian dogs were about $2500 too and the shipping. But $4950--never heard prices like this. Is that really USD?
I have heard of people who paid $7000 for pet dogs from RM with shipping.
