You would think that after almost 2.5 years of constant socialization that they would have seen just about everything by now.  However, today we were out and stopped at Sonic for lunch.  You can either order in your car and they bring it out or they have a nice little patio area.  Today since it is nice out (i.e., not too hot), we decided to eat on the patio.  That is the first time we have done this at Sonic.  So, we place our order, sit down at the table, I pour them some water in their bowl when all of a sudden the door pushes open and out pops a server on his roller skates ..... Lucy went underneath the table, through the water bowl and hid under DH's chair!  Her response when I offered a treat for distraction was , "No I don't want no stinkin puppy treats mom can't you see I'm busy trying to keep an eye out for these people on wheels!"  Wasn't till we were back in the car that she settled down enough to have a treat!

Poor Lucy! What did sister Sophie think of the wheeled server?
I've heard of a lot of dogs who are unsettled by people on wheels. Jack isn't bothered by it, but he's been around kids on rollerblades, skateboards, scooters, etc. on a daily basis since I got him.
Maybe you will have to buy yourself a pair of skates so she can get used to them. LOL- I can't wait for photos!
Sophie didn't head for cover, but she also kept her eye on them and she was still able to scarf down a few treats! I had a pair of roller blades when we lived in FL. However, DH's boss at work had a roller blading accident and broke her tail bone. It was an incredibly long recovery getting the tailbone to fuse back together, so I retired my roller blades to the yard sale. Think maybe I might try walking them over at the skate park a few times.
Poor Lucy! Those roller skates can be scary. :-) I didn't know Sonic allowed dogs in the patio area. That is neat. :-)
we didn't ask, they didn't toss us out. I've decided to just sort of go with the if I can enter the patio area from the outside (not have to go through the restaurant) then it is fair game!
I did that, too, at the local Culver's (no Sonics in this area) and nobody questioned it.
Ooooo Culvers! Yum!
I can certainly see how that would be a little disturbing for Lucy & Sophie. People on wheels....WTD? Just when you think you have them figured out they "grow wheels". I'd be reluctant to go for the treats either at a time like that. I had to give up my roller blades too.....
We just came back from an evening concert on the square in a local village. There was a young kid there that had on those shoes kids wear with built in wheels ...... He must have gone past us a dozen times and every time Lucy kept her eye on him. She wasn't as freaked out by him as it wasn't as noisy as the regular roller skates, but she kept her eye on him.

On a positive note though, even though she has had a rough couple days with her new scary water bowl and the roller skating servers, she did very well with the noise from the band (she normally hates the drumbs) and with greeting people. We have actually gotten to the point where I can have both dogs in one hand and they both sit to be greeted. (That was a long time coming).
That is great! Much more important than being afraid of servers on rolelr skates!
This is so funny - must be a doodle thing. Peri has no fear EXCEPT for people on roller blades, skateboards, etc....she really shies away and barks in a scared way. Taquito has NO fear for anything with wheels. But Peri has been like that from Day 1. And I have socialized her like crazy also - she loves everyone and everything except things with little wheels! So she would be doing exactly what your Lucy did :)
