Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Today I read this post on the Doodle Zoo from a long time supporter.  http://disc.yourwebapps.com/discussion.cgi?disc=228724;article=8703...

Please read it.  Before reading it I did not know what to believe now we all know the truth.

Egads!!! Years ago, maybe 6 or more, I had looked into a dog from Tegan's and they were nowhere near as expensive then. Of course, now I realize just how many dogs were breeding there and what that means. And before all the "troubles. I couldn't bear the thought of such a long flight etc. Then I chickened out about the idea of a dog altogether until Rex came into my life unbidden and the rest is history.
When the dogs were still shipping from Australia to Europe the prices were all together (incl. shipping) in this price range. To get a dog to the Netherlands it was more than $6000 just before they sent the dogs to Twyla in the US. Even with shipping from the US the price including shipping was still around $4500 which is ridiculous. My Tyler also comes from the US and I can state that even with excellent shipping I paid much less.
Bella's original owner was charged $3500 for the puppy plus $1450 for shipping. I even have copies of all of the email correspondence. There is quite a bit of hype in the emails refering to her "unique color & exceptional pedigree".....

She is from Tegan's El Grande and Primrose line.....(whatever significance that has.) and she came with "pedigree papers" that you might as well wipe your you-know-what with as that's about all that they are good for. I know that her brother was shipped to LA along with her and he is or was some "big" stud dog --Tegan's "Oh So Sporty"

The "Hi to my new Family" email is particularly disturbing because it details all of the 'Fun filled activities" at Rutlands "Adventure Playground" puppies were supposedly engaging in prior to be stuffed in a crate and shipped to whoever had the bucks to purchase them...
El Grande is quite famous but I can't remember why. Oh So Sporty was at Virgina Labradoodles and now is at Hudson Labradoodles and he is a well known stud.
Bev may have banged up Bella's price because she is a chocolate miniature....They were asking more for the minis I noticed.......and more for unusual or more desirable colors.

I knew that Hudson Labradoodles has her brother......It looks as though Virginia Labradoodles health tested him while he was there and he cleared....Hopefully Bella has the same good genes and will not develop any health problems in the future......Although I will tell you that she does have chronic systemic yeast issues and an allergy to grain......
Jac, you know what I think about that price... Bella wants to be able to sass you when you reprimand her, along the lines of "Mom! Don't you know HOW MUCH I COST?" ;)
teehee!!!!!
Sorry, couldn't help but laugh at this....
I still can't imagine so many people keeping the business alive by paying that much. Amazing. And I have to give them credit for brilliant marketing.

On a similar note, my mother is a photographer for "high end" homes for sale in our area At one house recently, they had an ALD. Mom said "oh that looks just like my daughters goldendoodle". The owner said very rudely "she is NOT a goldendoodle, she is an australian labradoodle from Rutland Manor". I am not trying to be rude about any person buying a dog from RM or Tegans, but I thought the comment was kinda funny :)
Snobbery lives on!
There is a doodle romp where many of the attendees exude this opinion. Hi-larious!!!! Lucky for us (haha) that Ned fits in. What remarks do you think I might overhear about Clancy though? hmmm ="What is he?" "His legs are so short?" "Look at that red tail!" and, most of all "Yikes, he sheds!"
Actually we were in a snooty area recently watching our son and his speed skating club practice. I see this lady walking by with a doodle!!! Whoopee!!!! I hurry over to her and say, "What a cute dog you have. Is he a doodle?" And she just looks at me and says her dog is an ALD as she rushes away! Ha, I didn't even get the chance to tell her about dk!
Nancy--almost as bad as a poodle owner telling me my poodle (Spud ) was just a bit too thick--with a very nasty look.
