Well, here we go again! We just got back from picking up Rufus who we are going to be fostering for the DRC. He is a ReHome. Rufus is a 2.5 y/o GoldenDoodle. So far I can say that he is incredibly calm. No jumping whatsoever. He definitely has a summer cut, but if his tail is any indication he is going to be beautiful when he grows out. His tail wags constantly and his face is always smiling. He seems like a very happy boy. We are starting out pretty much normal around here with Lucy being mean and bossy and Sophie wanting to play. Rufus I'm not sure has been around too many dogs because he just seems like he isn't sure what to do. He wants to be right with me, and Lucy wants him no where near me. Right this very second all is calm but I don't anticipate it staying that way. As I'm typing he is just laying right beside me on a dog bed. Look for more updates as we get more acquainted.
He is a pretty boy. I bet he is confused and you represent security to him. You have gotten so good at this, I am sure everything will settle quickly. Keep us posted.
Well, we survived the night. Rufus on his bed in our room and the girls in their room. He is about the calmest doodle I've come across. Guess this probably has to do with living in a home with older folks and no other dogs. He is very respectful of things, seeming to even want permission to follow me into the den. He is a tall boy, best I can tell around 26 inches. Not sure of his weight yet, but he is sturdy. So far no accidents in the house. The best way I can describe him is he just looks happy! He needs some time to become comfortable and feel safe, but in the mean time he just walks around looking like he has a smile on his face and there is a light in his eyes. We will see what today brings.
He sure is a handsome Dood. He's so lucky to be with you and Lucy & Sophie. Glad the night went so well. You're so awesome to be doing this for Rufus!!!!
I think Rufus is a beautiful, dog and once his hair grows out, wow! You can tell by that tail!
I hope he starts playing and for his sake (not really yours LOL), he gets more comfortable and maybe even wild!
Rufus is a handsome dood and I bet your girls will accept him as "the brother they never knew they wanted" in no time! I know he'll be super happy at your house, and well prepared to be his best doodle self when he goes to his forever home!
Linda knows better than I because she went to pick him up, but I think it was something to do with maybe medical and not being able to give him the attention and exercise and he was just lonely! She did say the lady was in tears when she left, so I don't doubt he was loved.
I think it was mostly the financial burden. The couple was on the porch with Rufus when David and I got there. The mom was hugging him. They lived outside of Plain City in a very rural area of farmland. She and her husband were very concerned that he go to a good home-they didn't appear to have any children(Nothing that we saw, anyway). She had taken him for a walk before we got there-she was very happy to know that he go to a home with other dogs for company. She does some kind of counseling according to her phone message. I think it's like everything else these days-too much responsibility and cost to take good care of a doodle. She asked that I call to let her know how Rufus is doing so it's obvious that there was care there-heartbreaking to have to give up your best friend.
I know it might be odd to say that I "like" this story, but I appreciate that the owners recognized that they weren't able to provide adequate care and took measures to ensure that Rufus would be in a loving environment with people who care about him and where he might end up. My doodle (Callie) was left in a pen outside a high kill shelter, in the middle of the night, so the contrast does make me recognized when someone is at least responsible enough to not kill their dog.
