I wanted to let people know about this. My friend's dog (Summer) went swimming in a bay for a long time enjoying her day at the beach. When they brought her home they saw that something was wrong, her tail was down and she was panting. It turns out that Labs for one love to swim so much they pull a muscle in their tail. It is very painful and they need to be on pain killers and need to see your vet, it's not life threatening but you need to see the doc for meds. It takes at least a week to get back to themselves again. I thought to post this because our dogs love the water, so be aware.

I believe Swimmer's Tail is another name for Limber Tail. One of our Beagles suffered from a few years ago. It is very painful.
Awww.... poor dogs. Both mine are swimmers. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the signs. I had NO idea. Thanks
Does this only occur from swimming? Any other activities? Why does this occur?
Ahh, here's a good explanation. http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/coldtail.html
A very accurate description. Baxter would actually yelp if he tried to pick his tail up or if someone tried to touch it.
I had never heard of this before, see , you learn something new everday

I doubt Neely will suffer from this as it would be more likely to happen if he had to straighten his tail out for long periods of time. His curls back over his back more like a shitzu or something.
