Socrates throws up at least once a month, and I'm wondering if anyone else out there has experienced this same thing, because it seems really unusual. He's not sensitive about food, I've switched brands with no problems. It's usually in the middle of the night (and believe me, that's the worse sound in the world to wake up to!) and it's usually just goo.

Once in awhile he's thrown up some weird stuff, such as something that I would have thought came out the other end if I hadn't witnessed him do it. He does eat grass sometimes, but I haven't noticed him throwing up on the same days he eats the grass. I called the vet the last time this happened, because he was acting totally fine and suddenly just threw up all over my living room in the middle of the day. And it smelled like feces really strongly, but I know he hadn't eaten anything. My vet wasn't too concerned, she said some dogs just have sensitive stomachs. And I trust this vet, I think she's really good.

So...anyone else have issues like this? I just want to make sure I'm not dealing with anything rare and serious, Socs is my baby! (And if it helps, he's just shy of 14 months and weighs about 65 lbs).

Thank you!

Oh poor thing! How did you train him to go the bathroom, because that would be a huge help!
He picked it up on his own. When I would hear him making noises as if he was going to be sick, I would rush him into the bathroom. After the second time, I noticed that he headed in there on his own and has done so ever since. I praise him and give him a good belly rub every time. There have been a few times when he hasn't been able to make it - after, he just continues on into the bathroom and lays down on a bath mat and watches me while I get out the very loud SpotBot to clean up after him.

I think he has seen - she wants me to go in there, I don't like the SpotBot, she seems to like the bathroom, we all go to bed much more quickly, I'm going to go into the bathroom. Now, I have no idea how to stop him from thinking that I need to be with him when his stomach is upset. I feel so bad for him because the times that he's missed the bathroom were because I didn't get up quickly enough as he was running back and forth between the bathroom and the bedroom.
What a smart boy Rouser is!!!! Tori too throws up hair balls every once in a while. It's her way of saying "Uh, mom... I've got some mats here!"
Peri has been throwing up bile in the morning about 2x per week - only recently, since we have had days over 100 degrees. I need to give her some food right before we go to sleep and see if taht helps.

I wouldn't worry too much Samantha.
Quincy also throws up occasionally, sometimes because he has eaten something that was not food( like pieces of his chew toys) but sometimes for no apparent reason. I am beginning to sense that he throws up if his stomach is empty. He won't eat his food until his evening meal, so I give him a couple of Canadaie grain free dog cookies in the morning and that seems to help.
My Wilson does this about once every 2 months in the middle of the night. He sleeps with me..so when he starts that retching thing..he slides off the bed...the last couple of times, Ive been able to dart out of bed, grab him and lead him quickly into the bathroom where I get him to throw up in the toilet! The first time he did this..he looked at me after we had flushed..I think I saw him wink at me..but it was approximately 2 am.! LOL Hope you get this solved..some doods just seem to have very sensitive stomachs.
That is hilarious - I have never heard of a dog that is trained to barf in the toilet!
@ BruceGirl...ummm, I'm trained!!! LOL
Okay, Joyce - YOU win the prize! In the TOILET!!! WOW! Now all you have to do is get him to poop on there and you're ALL set. You may even make it on David Letterman's SMART Pet Tricks! WOW! I am IMMM-Pressed! - LOL
Yeah...but i'm NOT going to wipe!!!! LOL
LOL... Yeah gave that up YEARS ago! :)
If only I could train mine to barf in the toilet. I'm happy if I can get them to a non carpeted floor.
