Dogs 101 - Rare Breeds - The Lagotto Romagnolo...... is it a Doodle????!!!!!

This (above) is a picture of a Lagotto Romagnolo,I saw one on Dogs 101 on the other night and thought how much they look like doodles, especially if his haircut was changed a little!!  They are supposed to be the grandfather breed of all water dogs, including poodles and retreivers.  My husband joked that by breeding the lab back with the poodle perhaps we have been breeding ourselves Lagottos!!

 

Here is a picture of my two LDs, the one in the background is our medium sized multi-gen.... or is her really a Lagotto??!!!!!

WOW! I really can't tell a difference! How interesting....... Of course the Lagotto is a beautiful dog because it looks just like a Doodle!! LOL I am going to have to look up more photos of them. I usually watch Dogs 101 wonder how I missed that one?! HHmmmm

There was also an episode the other night about 'designer breeds' which featured the labradoodle. They were fairly accurate about most of its characteristics. Although, I took issue with groomer saying how easy their coat was to manage. I have an F1 which is very easy to brush, but my multi-gen matts and takes 2-3 hours to comb right through - not that easy!!

I saw the same dog on a Nat'l Geo special last night called "And Man Created Dogs" They showed them in action. I wondered the same thing if they were a doodle "branch." Beautiful dogs as are our "doods."

They are very rare in this country, and are prone to several major genetic illnesses. I'll stick with doodles!

I saw thiat Dogs 101 and thought they do look similar. Your doodle looks exactly like the lagotto!

I wonder if we can teach our doodles to find truffles like the Lagotto Romagnolo? =) But I have to admit doodles and lagottos look very similar.

I bet they could. They have good "sniffers" too. But now you have to find local truffle sites.

We have made that mistake before... several times now. Welly is so used to playing with other doodles that he rarely stops to think if they might be friendly as pretty much every doodle we have met has been friendly and playfull.

This may be just bad luck... but all of the Logottos we've met (maybe 6) have been sooooo unfriendly towards other dogs. Nothing like a doodle in temperament. You should see Welly's face when he goes to introduce himself - what a shock!

So now if it looks doodle - but is on the small side... we are a bit more cautious.

Yes, I've found that too. They are very much working dogs, not "people dogs" like doodles!
