so lately duncan has been starting his BM with a nice firm "log" but then out comes a few squirts of soft serve. This is with his morning, afternoon and evening poops.
This is not normal for him as he is usually a consistent "log" only maker.

Has anyone ever encountered this? It's been about 2 or 3 days like this but he's eating and drinking and playing and not showing any signs of discomfort.

The only thing I could think of is that he likes sugar snap peas and i usually give him two or three a day. Well I might have given him a few more than that recently so maybe it's just the extra veggies....

The other thing is that last week duncan met my friend's new rescue Bailey. Apparently Bailey had kennel cough and they didn't know. It must have been mild because i only noticed him make one small cough the entire time we were there. Anyway, it's been 8 days since and Duncan has no signs of anything. He is totally vaccinated but i know that doesn't mean he is 100% protected. Do you think he would have presented symptoms by now? Also, could there be any connection to his poop changes?

I am such a worry wart. I am spoiled to have a pup who is so robust and healthy and has normal routines that i worry when small changes happen:)

As for the poo, don't worry about it if he is eating fine.

For the kennel cough, it took Taquito about 8 days to catch it from Peri (both were vaccinated). I would think you would see symptoms pretty soon - don't worry, you will know when/if Duncan has it! And it is generally not a huge deal if they are vaccinated - it is usually MUCH less severe and they get over it after the first few days of antibiotics. We had been keeping my sister's dog and my mother's dog at the same time that Peri came down with the cough. Both of their dogs had not been vaccinated. Sister's dog got it - a severe case (he's fine now!). Mom's never did....
The sugar snap peas could definitely be causing the changes in his poop; raw vegetables are made up of a large amount of indigestible plant cellulose.
Bordatella symptoms show up 2-14 days after exposure and the most common one is a dry hacking sound. I don't think Duncan's poop problem is related to that at all & I wouldn't worry about it. Stop giving him the sugar snap peas and I think that will solve the problem.
My puppy has had combo poop since we got her at 10 weeks and she's 17 weeks now. I've started transitioning to Innova Puppy over the last week, but so far no changes.

I'd love to hear from more about this as I wasn't sure if it was normal!
It's very normal for the last part of a poop to be softer and less well-formed than the first part.
thanks that is good to know. i'll stop with the peas. he won't be happy but i will.
Try a new, more exciting treat. Like fruits. Right now my dogs are loving cantelope, watermelon and blueberries. It's a hard life for them, but somebody's gotta do it.
There is less time for the excess fluid to be reabsorbed from the stool causing softer "end results". That's why, I sometimes prefer to pick up , excuse me, baked poop.
According to Marvista, the incubation period is 2-14 days. I don't know of a connection with soft poops.
