Snickers has a stalker! So my husband takes Snicks for a walk everyday through this subdivision across the street. Almost everyday he runs across this woman who coos around Snickers, oh he is so cute, so soft etc. She will even come out from her house to “greet” him. My husband has always felt uncomfortable with the attention as he wants to get on with his walk (he is very task oriented). However yesterday it just got weird…as she is lavishing her attention she stands up looks at my husband and says. “You know if you ever want to sell him please come to me first as I would LOVE to buy him he just looks like the perfect dog. I would definitely pay you a fair price.” He really didn’t know what to say except express some nervous laughter, then continued his walk. How weird is that??
We don’t have children so Snicks is like our child, can you imagine if someone said if you ever want to sell your son or daughter I would love to buy them, I will give you a fair price! Too weird, I told him to take a route around her block from now on! Have any of you ever heard of such a thing!
OMG!!! Robyn that IS so weird and you know what? We have had someone offer to buy Tara too! We were at a store one day and a man just fell in love with her and offered us $2500.00 for her on the spot!!! We felt the same way..like he was offering to buy our child (we don't have children either). It was kind of scary and one of the reasons we never leave her alone in a car or anywhere unattended.
Tara also had a woman stalking her around a store once. It was a large store and every time we turned down an aisle-there she was. She would pretend to be looking at items on the shelves but I could see she was watching Tara out of the corner of her eye!! I creeped me out!!
I agree with your idea of changing your walking route and tell that woman to get her own darn dog and leave yours ALONE!!
When I first got Callie I was kinda dilly-dallying about getting her microchipped. Then we were at PetSmart one night and a woman kept following us around, showering Callie with attention and saying things like "don't you want to come home with me?". It started freaking me out that someone might steal Callie (probably silly, because while she's super amazing to me, and like my child, I'm sure she's just a do to everyone else). I got her chipped the next morning.
Frannie, the woman that was following Tara around was in a Petsmart too!! Is that where the dog stalkers go to look for their next "victim?" or something?
That is FUNNNYYY! When we went to puppy classes at PetCo last year, there was this family of 5 that were eyeing our dogs and making their way around the fenced off area of the store to get behind us and start asking about our dogs! I'm like, "I'm trying to do my class here, can I talk to you afterwards"? I didn't say that of course, I was trying to be nice, I mean, I love to talk about my babies!! Yeah, watch out for the people at pet stores with no pet with them asking you about yours!!! LOL!!!
Really, really weird. "Creeps me out", as my daughter would say. The comment about "if you ever want to sell him" is particularly disturbing, as it shows a complete lack of what having a dog even means. I wonder what she thinks a fair price would be.
I agree with trying to avoid her. Brrrrrr!
Karen totally agree. At one point she had asked where we got him and DH told her. Hopefully she doesn't remember or can't find the breeder. Creeps me out is EXACTLY how I felt when he told me about the encounter.
I have had the same experience....I always answer the same thing, "NOT FOR A MILLION DOLLARS....this is my CHILD!!" And I provide the name of the breeder and how to get to her website.
I would have said "actually, I would not take any amount of money for Snickers - he is a part of our family". I have said something like that before to someone who asked about Peri. That is totally creepy, I agree! Your husband needs to not go down that street anymore... She sounds like a lunatic.
We've had similar experiences with Banjo....twice in fact. Not as blatant ... but it's enough to convince us we'd NEVER leave Banjo unattended in the car. DH is retired cop and has had experiences with people having their dogs stolen from their vehicles. It seems there are plenty of people out there who consider dogs as possessions.
If you knew if the wacko lady had kids you could respond "Oh did you sell one of your children so you know the going rate? We consider Snicker's our child" Then she might think you are the wacko's and stay in her house! People are nuts, they just never cease to amaze me.
I have had a few similar experiences, and it is one of the main reasons I am SO paranoid about leaving Darwin unattended. I absolutely do not leave him in the car, or unsecured anywhere. I have a feeling that if through some horrible way he DID get lost, there is a chance someone would keep him instead of taking him to a shelter to get scanned for a chip. It terrifies me.
