Okay, I know I'm being way to anal about this, and I'm usually really good with math, but this is confusing.  I'm transitioning Chewie from Fromm's to Orijen (Adult ).  He eats 1-1/2 cups of Fromm's/day (over two meals) and it looks like he should get 1-1/4 cups Orijen/day (over two meals).  I know I should start with a 1/4 to 3/4 mixture and go from there and there just doesn't seem to be any easy measurement for it.  1/3 to 2/3 would be much easier to measure.

Is there a math genius out there who can make this headache go away...LOL.

1/4 of the mix is 3/8 of a cup. the other 5/8 is fromm. got a 1/8 scoop handy? this is based on the fromm's amount of 1.5 cups. maybe stick with the quantity until you get him switched.
3/4 of Fromm would be .56 cup per feeding (so a little more than 1/2 a cup).
1/4 of Orijen would be .16 cup per feeding (so do a little more than 1/2 of a 1/4 cup).
OMG that is waaay too complicated. Will keep thinking.
Why not just do 3/4 cup in the morning and 1/2 cup in the evening. He has all day to work off the slightly larger amount.
Psh. That is way too easy. LOL.
Then just do the 1/3-2/3. I put the transition foods in little ziplocks for the first week. Then I don't have to think everyday:)
Makes life a lot easier!!
Laura, go ahead and do it by thirds. It isn't that exact a science and won't make that much difference. I've switched many a dog cold turkey without even transitioning, and unless the dog has severe digestive issues, it really doesn't have that much effect. (This doesn't apply to young puppies)The difference between a mixture that's one third A and two thirds B vs a mixture that's one quarter A and three quarters B is that in the first case, there would be about 8% more of food A (and less of food B) in the mixture than in the other case. I promise you that Chewie's digestive system won't notice, lol.
(PS: It's good that you're anal about feeding your dog. So am I. That's why this group works. FG members know that if there is the tiniest thing to worry about, I will point it out. :))
For what it's worth, I have never had any success transitioning food for either of my dogs. They both pick out the food they don't want and will not eat it.
That all sounds like a whole lot of math that translates to a few kibbles difference.

Take 1 1/4 cups Orijen and add to a big container. Add 1 1/2 cups Fromm's. Then do that two more times. Mix. Now you have 4 days of food. Serve 1 1/3 cups over two meals. Done.
Brilliant! Of course, since this discussion is a month old, the transition is done by now. But it's a good idea if this comes up in the future.
