The dogs have been in their kennels more then usual today -- it's pouring rain.  Every time we walk them outside they end up soaked and so they go in their kennels to dry.  Unfortunately with a puppy.. by the time she dries she needs to go again.  Cycle continues.

Tonight both dogs went outside I dried feet and they were in the living room.. I noticed Violet about to squat and whisked her outside.  She came in, 10 minutes later went to squat --- and thats when I started to worry.  She squatted and whimpered.  No pee.

I took her outside, she squatted several times, every five minutes or so...  not apparently getting relief.  I called my husband to come outside, starting to panic.  I went inside and called the emergency vet.

She's in route there now with my husband.  (Our three kids are in bed, so one of us had to stay here.)

Now... I wait.

My husband is certain he saw her physically pee this afternoon.

Trying not to worry.  Hoping it's nothing and I overreacted.

The vet (perhaps tech?) that I spoke with said it could be an infection.  That might explain why we had so many accidents yesterday... I know when humans get bladder infections they pee like crazy.  It certainly feels like Violet needed to go every 30 minutes - 1 hour yesterday.

Anyway, I am just rambling.  Trying to make the time past faster... and I needed to vent my concerns.

Wow this has been some week for sick doodle kids...I am sending hugs and good doodle vibes that she is better very soon. It does sound like a UTI, so lets hope that the antibiotics kick in and she starts to feel better today...I would definately take her to your own vet to check her out. Did they get a sterile specimen to culture her urine? I might just call the vet today myself and ask if he wants to see her. Sometimes seeing your own vet makes things better for you too...
I called my vet, fortunately they have a good relationship with the emergency vet nearby. The emergency vet sent everything to them for review (all tests and results). I was calling with intention of setting up a follow up tomorrow (Saturday) but my vet recommended that we come in a week from Saturday so she will be completely finished with her antibiotic and they can run another urine analysis to make sure the infection is completely cleared up.

They said to watch her, if she appears to be in pain again... or stops being able to pee to bring her in - but based on the tests and her improvement it is a UTI and there is nothing more to do other then make sure she gets both pills every day
WHEW! That is good news... I'm sure you will worry a bit over the next couple of days, but once she starts peeing more regularly, I'm sure you will see she's on her way to heeling!
Thank you all for you support and wisdom. You know, we've had Violet less then two weeks and my mind was running worrying that she was going to need surgery, or worse be sick without a chance. It may seem irrational, I know it looks silly when I type it.

More then 15 years ago I bought a puppy from a breeder. I was young, I didn't inspect where the puppies were kept, I wouldn't have known back then what to look for. He was a gorgeous, tiny, sable Shih Tzu. I named him Gizmo. I took him for his first check up, but the night of his first check up he had runny bowel movements. This tiny dog passed movements that were virtually entirely made up of worms. I was horrified. Things started bad and got worse. Long story short this little tiny 4lb dog had Parvo. I spent every penny I had. He lived at the vet on IV fluids. He fought the Parvo for over a week.

So, I am a little protective of my dogs... and it makes me nervous when they are young and something happens.

Anyway - thank you so much for the assurances it will be ok.
Heather...my neighbors have a 9 month old standard Goldendoodle. When they got Bindi at around 9-10 weeks she had giardia and a UTI. It is very common from what I am understanding for most puppies to get this stuff or arrive with it. Keep an eye on the UTI because our neighbors really didn't know the signs to watch for and thought after the antibiotics she was cured. Turns out she had the UTI for several months and it was re-diagnosed at 6 months when she was spayed. I think after what you have gone through, you now know the signs and what to look for. I'm glad to hear Violet is home and in your good care. The medication will do wonders for her. She will feel so much better tomorrow.

In fact, I just got a call from my neighbor that Bindi was just "skunked" and so I had to run over with a special wash for them to use. It's 10:00 PM and they have a 2 week old human baby too! It's always something...ha ha
What a very sad story. Glad Violet is improved.
Oh Heather - never any need to apologize on here for what you THINK is over reacting! We all love our doodles so much and it's great to know we have all of us here to turn to when we are worried! Hope Violet feels better in the morning!
Hope little Violet is feeling better this morning! Hugs from Lucy and Sophie (and their mommy too). Sophie had a UTI right after we got her, and then again when she was Spayed. Been fine since then. You are a good Doodle Mommy for getting her to the vet so quickly.
sending positive and healing thoughts Violet's way.
How is Violet this morning? Poor little girl. Hopefully she is feeling better and you are too.
Is she doing better today?
She definitely seems more energetic - which makes me think she's already feeling less discomfort. She did her business this morning without squatting 10 times, so next is to call the vet for her follow up tomorrow (our vet has Saturday hours.. hopefully they still have them this weekend with Labor Day). I don't know if the tons of squatting was just her feeling like she *needed* to go after she already had... maybe because she felt sensitive or pain and thought she needed to?

Either way she's not doing this tons of squatting and she hasn't whimpered at all. (yay!)
