The last couple months I have had the most difficult time applying the Frontline Plus on Chewie.  He's never been thrilled with it...has been challenging, but I always managed.  The last two months, he runs when I come anywhere near him with it.  The only thing that has worked, is elevating him (on the washing machine with a non-skid rug under him) and using treats.  Even still, the minute he feels it on him, he is not happy, but with some additional treats, I am able to apply the rest of it...I always said, he'll do anything for a treat!

I'm not getting the impression it hurts/burns him and he is perfectly fine as soon as I put him down...just seems fearful for some reason.  H acted in a similar way recently when he got a shot (vaccines) at the vet.  He wanted nothing to do with it while on the floor and someone bending over him, but once they put him on the exam table, he did much better.

Anyone else's dood act this way with their flea/tick preventive?

My daughter uses that kind also and it leaves an oily 'stripe' down her dog's back. Does it do this with Darwin.
Yep, you can see it. It looks like it is dyed yellow too... perhaps I need to buy a new brand.
What kind do you use?
Sentry Natural Defense.
Right, it's between the shoulder blades and they can't reach it. I think it could possibly make them ill if ingested. Poison the kitchen--how long have you worried about this, hmmmm?
My guys can't reach to lick it on themselves, but Murph seems to smell it on Guinness and gets very interested. I keep them separated for a while to prevent any licking when it's still wet. I'm guessing it would not be at all good for them. I also make sure I take the empty "container" and throw it outside in the trash to make sure they can't get to it.
Max hates it too. DH holds him while I put it on, don't think I could manage by myself. After he tries to rub it off usually on the furniture!! So we take him outside & play fetch for awhile. I thought the same as Karen that maybe it stung but again not sure if that's the case.
Thankfully, neither of my 2 mind the Frontline. I think because I usually do it in the kitchen or somewhere downstairs, it doesn't make Calla think that I'm going to do something she hate like ears, nails or coat : )
Okay... confession time.... I don't use it any more. (I'm knocking wood as I type!) Tori flipped out when I put it on her last year that I was so worried I burned her. That iI don't use it anymore.... she's not out long enough for me to be too worried and I do check her. There is a lemon homemade spray that you can make that is supposed to be pretty reliable.
I guess I'll confess too. I don't use it regularly. We only use it during the months that we will be by standing water like a lake, or up in the mountains, etc. My vet has said that where I live there is a lower risk for fleas and ticks. He recommended we only use it when we go places that are high risk, like I mentioned above. We haven't had a problem so far.
I'm a tick freak, but the chemicals on her and the way she acted worried me more than her getting a tick - and that's truly unbelievable - if you knew how I was with ticks! Camilla ~ You go GIRL! confession is good for the soul!
I'm going to try a new flea treatment tonight - it is called Comfortis and they are chewable tablets. We had fleas for the first time in the last month and my vet and groomer both said that the Advantix we use is not doing the job at the moment but the Comfortis (being a new brand) is. The only problem for us is that it doesn't cover ticks - thought I'd try and get the fleas under control and then switch back.
By the way we are in Australia so you may not even have the same brands!!!!
