Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I tried to search for this but could not find anything - perhaps I didn't do it right but here is my question.  Are the frozen treats "FrostyPaws" pure junk food for dogs or are the o.k. as an occasional treat.  Our lab had always loved them but I have to admit that I was an uneducated mom about the dangers of cheap dog food at that time.

Rooney is getting Orijen Puppy from his breader and I will continue that when he comes home.  Would it make his tummy upset then to be getting soy and whey products in the FrostyPaw.  I live in FL where it gets pretty hot - what do you suggest for a frozen treat?  Thank you,

Another frozen treat recipe. Mix a small nonfat plain yogurt with a small bottle of baby food. Any organic flavor your dog may like, fruit, meat , veggie etc Freeze in ice cube trays for a healhy treat.
Wow Tammy this is an awesome idea. Thank you!
Great idea...I'm going to try it!
You guys are amazing! I think my next big project is going to be roping all of you into writing a dog food/treat cookbook, with the profits going to doodle rescue!
I'm game. Good retirement project!
I'd buy it!
Rooney will NOT be getting the FrostyPaws! I love all of the ideas that you have given to me - I am going to try buying some of the yoghound but will also try to make some yogurt frozen snacks myself. I love the idea of the frozen kong with peanut butter. So here is another question - 1) back in the day they only had kongs in small, med, lrge, jeez now they come in every shape and size. I don't even know where to start. Rooney will be about 8-10pds when he comes home in 3 wks. What size do you suggest. Also I am guessing that by peanut butter you are using "real" peanut butter not the stuff that Kong sells out of a tube - I saw this the other day but didn't read what was in it. Please let me know.
Woo Hoo - Kong shopping - I am stocked up and ready to go - now all I need is the peanut butter - he'll eat the better stuff than I have (no Peter Pan for my baby but I'll eat it) and I need my puppy. We started count down today. He comes home on Oct. 30 at 10.5 wks old and with almost 3 wks of training. I just hope that I can be a good mom.
Has anyone tried making freezed dried treats? I am considering it as my dood is allergic to chicken meal...or whatever chicken parts they use for fillers in most treats!
Not sure if someone already suggested this because I didn't have time to read all the posts. But have you ever done a frozen Kong? Soak your dog's Orijen kibble in water until it is expanded then stuff that into a Kong and put into the freezer overnight. Fun treat for the kennel in the morning!
Daisy use to love peanut butter (yes Nancy the good health food kind with nothing added) in her Kong - she now sticks her nose up at that - she won't even bother to try to get the best of the best out of her Kong, she looks at it, then me, then DH and then the Kong until WE get it out for her - once the demand lasted over a 1/2 hour so now no more Kongs - lazy Daisy!

We do give Daisy another frozen treat - I think it's Dogsters but I will look when I get home and let you all know, if it's not worthy I will never admit to giving it to her again :-)

We are currently trial testing Orijen Kibble - she is so fussy and Blue Buffalo and Wellness caused her to have runny poops....it's been a long 9 months, I think we may try Wellness again if the Origen doesn't work out, she was just little when we tried it the first time.
We all give our dogs things that are less than wonderful from time to time. And there's nothing wrong with that, or with admitting it.
We just don't want to recommend those kinds of things, lol. There's a big difference between saying "I gave Jack a milkbone today" (actually, the bank teller gave it to him) and saying "I give Jack milkbones and he does great with them, you should try them too."
