Well, I got my wish that Sherlock's biopsy would come back sooner rather than later.  Unfortunately it was not good news, he does indeed have cancer.  Our vet said there isn't chemo for the type of cancer Sherlock has and the tumor is too far back in his throat and up into the soft palate to be able to remove it all surgically.  He is checking on a med that seems to stop/slow down the cancer in some dogs.  We are going to give it try and hope for the best.  We should know something in the next day or two where we can order the medicine.

I am really sorry to read this news. I truly hope you are able to find the medicine and it extends his time with you.
Hugs, hugs, hugs. We are all thinking of you.
I am so sorry to hear the news about Sherlock. Doodle hugs to you to get you through this very difficult time.
Thanks everyone for the love and support you are sending our way. Sherlock and his brother Baxter will turn 10 on October 27th. I have not asked the how long question. We will have that discussion with our vet soon. Sher is doing fine now; he eats his food a little slower and takes longer to finish his nightly chew stick. I still plan on bringing the "beagle boys" with us to our Atlanta romp on the 24th. Thanks again.
When my family cairn had the same type of tumor in his mouth, adding water really helped him be able to chew and swallow the food in the beginning. After a little while, Mom ended up feeding canned food - Jake loved it and it was super easy to get down.

The beagle boys will have fun at the romp :)
I am so sorry to hear about Sherlock. (I have always had a fondness fo beagles.) Hope the med helps. Positive thoughts for you and Sherlock.
Nina, so sorry to hear it. We are sending all our prayers and wishes for Sherlock. All I can say is that he's very lucky to have you as his owner.
Tomorrow we take Sherlock to have blood work and chest x-rays done with a local canine oncologist. Then early next week we will talk about our options. BTW, Sherlock wants to thank everyone for all their prayers and energy they are sending our way. Allyson thanks for the water suggestion. Today I used the left over "juice" from our cats' morning meal of soft food and mixed it with some water. Sherlock was thrilled with this new addition to his food.
Very sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with you.. I hope Sherlock comes through this in good form. Thanks for posting this for us all.
Nina, I am so sorry to hear this news, Let's think happy thoughts so the med's will work for a very long time. I know exactly how you are feeling, as do many of us here on DK. I wish all the best, please let us know how it is all going. Hugs and kisses from me and Achilles. You take care. anna
Nina, I am so sorry to hear about Sherlock's diagnosis. My boss' Golden Retriever had a similar cancer (just the soft palate, not the throat) and his vet was able to give him some medications that helped him quite a bit.
I continue to have you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
