All the current news is good,

A few months ago we were having difficulty controlling Mariner's seizures.  The medication, phenobarb, just wasn't working.  Our vet decided that it was time to start him on potassium bromide.  We started it and Mariner became a zombie.  He was lethargic and lost alot of hindquarter strength.  He couldn't go up and down steps, while walking he would fall down and not be able to get up by himself, etc,  It was horrible but he wasn't having any seizures.  We started gradually reducing both the phenobarb and the potassium bromide.  He is now on a very light dose of the phenobarb and about 1/3 of the original dose of potassium bromide.  He is not having seizures and has regained his former strength.  He is more playfull than he ever was and seems to have more energy than before.

It still difficult to know how much eyesight he has but he didn't seem to have any problems at the Sandy Hook romp.

Mariner had a wonderful time.  He decided he needed a little rest.

(Mariner is 3.  When he was about 7 weeks old he fractured his skull causing his seizure disorder and blindness.  He has regained functional eyesight.  We adopted him when he was about 4 months old.)

So glad you found the right combination of meds to help Mariner. I hope he continues to do well!
Glad to hear the happy update on Mariner. Sometimes it takes time to get things just right. He was a real trooper at the romp. How's Boomer the leash devourer doing? : )
I am so thrilled that Mariner's medications are working for him.
Glad things are looking up for Mariner.
I'm glad to hear Mariner is doing so well!
This is really wonderful news about Mariner! You and he have certainly been traveling a tough road, but it sounds like things are so much better now.
I hope he continues to do well. This is great news. Mariner is such a cute dood.
GREAT to hear! I had been wondering about how the potassium bromide addition was going. We were fortunate and never needed to add it to the phenobarb with Sadie. Wonderful photo! So nice to see Mariner assimilated into a "normal" dog's life. I think with human's & disabilities years ago this was called normalization. YAY! Thanks so much for the update! Sadie & Leane
Wonderful news about Mariner's improvement!!! You guys are doing a great job of helpng him with his challenges and it is so nice to see him out enjoying life!!
I am so glad you are finding a good combination of meds, and that there have been several options. He looks like such a sweety. I am glad he enjoyed the romp.
