Does anyone have experience with a doodle with blocked tear ducts?  Murphy has always had "eye boogers" but lately it has been much worse, one eye more than the other and he has gotten red tear stains that he didn't have before.  People keep telling me that poodles, labradoodles, whatchdoodles, all have tear stains and that it is normal.  Since it was getting worse and changing I had the vet look at him when I dropped him off at daycare today.  She says he has blocked tear ducts and gave me some eye drops to use for the next 10 days. (She also did a great trim job on his hair around his eyes, much better than the groomer).  Anyway, she says they did an eye stain and there is nothing wrong with his eyes but the ducts are blocked.  She says it could be inflammation or an allergy and the drops will clear it up or if they don't clear up they will need to sedate him and go in and unblock them.  I don't really like the sound of that.  Anyone had this prob lem ?

Sorry for poor Murphy. I am glad that he has something so curable though.
My knowledge is only from the human blocked tear duct problem. My friend's daughter had to have surgery as a little toddler for unblocking tear ducts. My friends told me that it was quite a simple procedure and her tearing and eye pain stopped right after. Hopefully it doesn't come to that with Murphy but I think it is good to know that it is something easily curable.
It is great that it was so easy to diagnose. My grandson as an infant had a blocked tear duct and it is a relatively simple procedure to correct. It really is not a surgery. More like they just sedate them and thread a very fine filament type thing down the duct clearing it out. No after affects what so ever. The drops will probably take care of it but if not, you don't need to fret too much if you do the procedure. Though when it comes to our Doodles, everything is major and serious in our opinions. We Doodle Moms just have to worry about out babies!!!!! Let us know how it turns out.
Daisy had a lot eye boogers and her eyes seemed too red rimmed and I was worried as well and asked the vet, he said the tear ducts were fine, no blockage but did say that keeping her eyes trimmed would make it better...that is what we do and now she no longer has them.
Oh, poor guy. Keeping fingers crossed that these drops will work and that you won't have to do the other procedure.
