My trainer told me that the antlers can carry salmonila and thy are not great to have around the house especially if you have little kids...any thought on this...Marley doesn't like her compressed rawhide lately for some reason and I just CAN'T do bully sticks because of their origin...she had taken to chewing books on the bookshelf so I need something soon!  Thanks!

Please visit the Food Group for more info on antlers than you ever wanted to read, lol. Your trainer is misinformed, they are perfectly safe, and lots of us use them. We also have great on-line sources for them.
Yup, Ditto Karen. I also have lots of hollow bones laying around our house that sometimes I put something in. You can freeze them then and the dogs can have a longer 'chew.'
The antlers are also much safer than any rawhide, which is indigestable and can cause blockage
So I never knew "exactly" what a bullystick was made from - sometimes I wish Google didn't exist - a little grossed out now LOL Hunter isn't a fan anyway thank goodness LOL
Does anyone know if it is OK to give a 3-month old puppy an antler to chew on? I got her a little pig ear, which she ingested, but I was a bit nervous about it. I was told not to give her a bully stick yet (gross as they are, they used to keep our LD Ceilidh (Kaylee) happy and occupied).
I am no expert but they will help her lose her puppy teeth for sure since they are so hard. I didn't give Bandit anything that hard until he had lost most of his puppy teeth. I have him softer chews specifically for teething, and kongs.... but it took him a while to get the kong thing.. He really liked the PetStages products and Nylabone puppy teething keys. All were destroyed eventually but he has now graduated to big boy chews like antlers and marrow bones... I would worry about digestive issues with a young puppy with things like pig ear.
Both my puppies came home to me from their breeder at 3 months with a small antler that was their favorite chew toy.
