We thought it was a great time to update everyone on Midnight.
We're so excited that his "XMAS Hip Fund" is now over the half way mark,
thanks to all of you on DK who have so generously donated to this amazing Doodle. We asked Judy, Midnight's and Daisy's foster Mom how he was doing, and here's what she had to say...
Midnight is having some trouble with the cold weather. We are having lows in the 30's/40's and highs in 50's and 60's. It must cause significantly more pain especially early in the am when they are being walked. He will soon sit down to indicate he doesn't want to walk any more. It is heartbreaking. Midnight has been developing a little attitude lately. Maybe because he has really settled in here or has decided he really IS special? He will playfully growl at his sister and if she is pestering him he will get serious, so she goes to lie down. Yesterday at the YMCA park (which is huge with nature trail, 2 ponds, all sorts of soccer fields, etc). I let Midnight off his leash to see how he would move when left to choose. He will run (say down a hill) then sit down and rest or wait for Daisy and me to catch up. He really loved this and obviously understood it was very special because he would run back to Daisy (who should never be off the leash unless within a fence) and tease her by doing that playful head butting thing and then run off from her. Since he cannot ordinarily keep up with his sister, this was a real treat for him and for me to watch. He always comes back either to check Daisy or because I call him. What a good boy! Midnight still loves to sleep on his back. We have many old deck chair cushions (some are torn on one side) so they have these as beds in my station wagon, in the garage and in their bedroom. It must be very comfortable for him to lie that way. He wedges himself between his cushion and the bed or some other furniture. He is also getting on the bed when I leave the room! No problem. Yesterday he got another bath with the Etiderm shampoo (stuff smells great). His skin condition has improved tremendously. Right after bathing, his "dandruff" appears so I brush him. The dandruff is decreasing. Also, he is going to be a very furry, curly guy when all that hair grows out. He still has that one little place on his left rear that is bald -- the Vet thinks it came from lying on concrete and wanted it cleared. The bald spot gets smaller and smaller. So, it's all very positive news. Midnight is clearly adjusting, and once he has those XMAS hips he'll have the life he so deserves. Daisy has been a bit of a "handful" since settling in with Judy, and we're all a little concerned about that while Midnight is recuperating, but we'll figure that out.
We've very hopeful that we'll be able to proceed with the surgery before XMAS. Midnight has lived enough of his life in pain, and we know the cold weather is adding to his discomfort. For those of you who have not donated and can help Midnight, here's the link to the prior discussion and the "Chip-In" (

www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/is-your-doodle-naked). Please don't forget to post your Doodle's picture on that Discussion wearing the DRC bandanna. We plan to make a collage of all our Doodles who are showing their support of Midnight. Finally, you've been sending us some great ideas for fundraisers. Look for news soon about a very special raffle....with a prize donated by one of our talented Doodle Kisses members.
You are all SANTA'S HELPERS! Thank you from Midnight and DRC.
