I just wanted to share something with you.

We have been taking Hershey to puppy classes at Pets Mart. They use the clicker and reward system for the Puppy Class, so we were getting Pup-oronies (sp) (they look like Slim Jims) and breaking them up in small pieces for his "good boy" treat. One day I was starting to get a headache and the smell of those things was nauseating. So my vet recommended that we use Cheerios. So we click and give him a Cheerio (Kroger brand) for his treat. It's been great, Hershey loves them, it's soooo much cheaper and I can tolerate the smell.

I thought I would share in case someone else is effected by the smell of those crazy dog treats.

My breeder also recommended Cheerios, and they work really well with Guinness. He loves them, and they are just the right size. I usually have a few in my pocket, and they don't smell or make a mess like the other treats.
Cheerios have been wonderful! We always have them around. My daughter loves them, and she was eating some in font of Hershey. I told her that she couldn't eat the dog treats in front of Hershey. LOL ;-P
If you haven't tried them yet, the banana cheerios have been a favorite in our house! Whopper loves bananas so anything with that flavor is a big hit.
Oh, I'll have to try those! Thanks!
Great ideas! We always have Honey Nut Cheerios - think those are okay or should we do plain?
I would imagine they are fine. I always ask my vet if I'm concerned.
I do the Cheerio thing too but...
I melted some peanut butter (3 TBLS) in some olive oil (2 TBLS) and drizzled it over the cheerios (about 4 cups), stirred it up, put it on a large cookie sheet and then baked the cheerios in a low oven. (like you would do crispix mix) Abby likes them so much better but she absolutely LOVES peanut butter. I store them in an air tight jar.
A whole lot cheaper than anything you can buy and they wouldn't be near as fattening - especially for clicker training where you use more treats.
Are they sticky? Or do they get completely dry like?
This sounds really good.
They are dry after you bake them and I cooked them until they were a golden brown.
Oh, great! I have to try them. Charlie loves Peanut butter as well!!
I just found this.....what a GREAT idea for training treats!!! I discovered (quite by accident this morning) that Banjo LOVES honey nut cheerios. I think he'd clean the house and do the laundry if he could just to get one!
I used a small handful this morning in training for his CGC class tonite and he was right on. I do feel a little guilty feeding him a cereal I wouldn't have given my kids when they were little. I'm going to go out and get the plain cheerios and make up a big batch of your recipe Denise. Banjo LOVES LOVES LOVES peanut butter!
Carol, I am so glad I saw your post. Murphy is back on a diet and this will be great!
