Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My 1 year old female F1B Labradoodle is doing a strange behavior. I have little experience with dogs, so I thought I would ask the experts. She is rubbing her cheeks on everything. It seems like she is scratching an itch. She does it a minute on the chair then go straight to the door facing and rub some more. I don't think it is her ears because I clean them and use drying drops at least every two weeks. Havent consulted my vet, yet. Any thoughts?

Yep. Every time Hershey eats, gets a bath, or comes back in after being outside - she wipes her face all over the living room. Nothings wrong with her (though when having an ear infection in the past, I did notice it the behavior was worse). I just think she likes to get her face in everything. Think about how many times a day you touch your face, scratch your nose, tuck your hair behind your ear - I'm no doggie psychic but I think that's what she's doing.

Others who have a dog that wipes their mouth on the carpet, couch, legs, etc?
Darwin is a major face rubber. Whenever he gets excited or happy, he rubs his face on our legs, the couch, anything, and starts sneezing, it's hilarious.

Has she always done this or is it a new development? perhaps she is getting irritated by something in the fall air. Also, you might want to check her nose and muzzle for any scratches cuts or scabs.
Gracie always does this after a bath or if she has been drinking water and her face is wet. What she loves most is flipping up our comforter and putting her head under and dragging it along the mattress. She will start at the bottom corner, go across, around the corner of the bed and up the side, turn around and come back all the while snorting! We love to watch her do this and we call it "Beddie Bye Surfing". I really need to get a video sometime and post it. Actually, about a year ago there was a discussion on this which was fun to read. It might have been under the group "Does Your Doodle...." or something like that.
Hunter constantly rubs her face on stuff too, especially if she is excited or happy - she rubs it on the floor or the couch and loveseat (much to my DH's dismay! LOL) . She really does it a ton when she just gets a bath. I wonder why they do that? How odd.
It could be an itch...often it is hard to see through the fur on their faces because it is so thick and bushy! They only way I can really see the skin to see if something is going on with my dog is to get her all wet in the bathtub. Maybe try that because it would let you see if the skin is pink or looks different from the rest of her body.
Thanks to all that replied. The comments were very helpful. Guess my wackadoole isn't so strange.
