Maizey is almost 7 months old now and we started letting her sleep in our bed with us. Since doing so, she has significantly changed her pooping pattern. All other routines in our lives are the same, but now she won't poop during the day, but will poop in the evening and then wakes us up at 3 am to go poop. She's had on/off diahrrea for months... we are still figuring out what is causing that. Could the change in sleeping routine be causing her pooping schedule to change or is it something completely different?
Where was she sleeping before? If she was in a crate, it would probably not be as easy for her to let you know she had to go out in the middle of the night....and they will usually never poop in their crate.
Interesting, Is anyone else waking up around 3 and she just wakes up too and then wants to go out? Our puppy sleeps in our bedroom / bathroom and if one of us gets up during the night she will wake and go to the bedroom door to be let out, but I really feel if we didn;t get up and disturb her that she wouldn't and many nights that we don't get up she sleeps thru the night fine. It has gotten better though, as I noticed just recently that she wakes up when we get up, but still just lays there and doesn't go to the door like she used to. Maybe it will just take some time?
We had a similar issue with our 5 month old Cody. He still sleeps in the crate (in our bathroom) where he can see us. He started waking up numerous times during the night with on/off diarrhea. He would let me know by knocking on the latch of the door to the crate. I took him to the vet who gave him a prescription of Flagil and put him on bland food. The poop schedule may have more to do with the diarrhea than with where she is sleeping. We are still trying to figure out why he has diarrhea. It doesn't help that he ate an entire bag of marshmellows from the pantry one day and a few days later polished off a bag of peanut butter treats that he stole off of the countertop!! You may want to look on the food group chats under "loose poop" for some more info. Good luck with Maizey and hope you get some sleep!
