Okay, haven't logged in for a looong time so sorry if someone's mentioned this one! Just read Scent of the Missing by Susannah Charleson. Absolutely fascinating (true!) account of a SAR team. Very touching without being over-sentimental. If you're interested in working dogs you won't want to miss this one!
Free to a Good Home by Eve Marie Mont is an excellent light read for anyone who loves dogs along with a Happily-Ever-After Story!
I'm reading "Dog House" by Carol Prisant, and I just love it. Here's a quote from the beginning that sets the tone for the entire book...
"Dog-love is steadfast, unreserved and genuine.
It's wholehearted.
It's uncritical.
It's accommodating.
The book is tells of the love affair she develops with dogs over her lifetime. She talks about her "rocky" relationship with her mother (who she describes as "never a Mom"), how she felt when her only son grew up and left home (and her "replacement dogs"), and her long (sometimes "up and down") journey with her husband. Here's what she says this book is about..."true love and dogs and husbands. And dogs and life. And dogs".
If anyone has read it, I'd love your thoughts.
I just finished "A dog's purpose" by W. Bruce Cameron and "The art of racing in the rain." by Garth Stein. They were every bit as good as everyone said they were! I'm so glad to have this thread, there have been great suggestions! I am now re-reading Marley and Me.... (sniff)
Good luck with Marley and Me. I loved it, but not everyone did. The movie is great also. Some prefer to leave before the end, especially if they have read the book. I also loved the Art of Racing in the Rain. I'm currently reading Koontz's new book Breathless. I love Koontz and he is currently having golden retriever rescue parts in his thrillers. My kind of reading.
I LOVE Dean Koontz, too! It always makes me happy when he puts a golden retriever into the storyline!
Oh yes, he is SO enamored with golden retrievers. I love goldens too, but even more so with doodles.
"Marley and Me" was a heart wrenching story, and I couldn't put it down. We have the movie too, and that was so good. Did you ever read "Hatchi"? The movie stars Richard Gere....based on a true story...so sweet, and so sad...
My grandson bought me the DVD Hachi. It was a great movie but a real tear jerker. A tribute of a dogs loyalty. My first client in my pet sitting business was an Akita.
Just finished Marley and Me. Second time I've read it, and I loved it just as much as the first time. I love the ending, it's sad but touching.

I am reading "How to Raise the Perfect Dog" by Cesar Millan.  While some of Cesar's methods have created much criticism, overall, the book really has been wonderful and provided lot's of tips on socializing and training.

BR (before Rua) I started reading a romance novel (my indulgent pleasure)...I finally finished it during the car ride back from visiting family at Thanksgiving (over 2 months to read when normally I would read 3 - 4 books a month).  I started a new one over two weeks ago...I am starting page 19.  Life AR (after Rua) is so different...and I wouldn't have it any other way.  I have traded most of my reading time for spending time on DK!

BR and AR, I love it. :-)
