Thursday evening I was giving Thomas..our 2 year old Goldendoodle a bit of a massage around his neck and shoulders as we were sitting on the couch together. Suddenly I felt this bump on his shoulder back area about 4 inches below his collar. I investigated of course and pulled the hair away and saw a black bump on his skin. My husband looked at it and said it was a wart...no no I told him...two year old dogs don't have those yet. By Friday this thing had gotten larger..my son and I took a good look and we decided it could possibly be a tick. Called the vet and drove him over right away...and yes...to my astonishment...my city dog had a tick! They removed the ugly culprit and now he is on antibiotics...just in case it passed on any infection. I am all over this dog of ours every night...brushing, cleaning ears and massaging him. So I know he did not have this thing earlier that week...we discovered it Thursday...had it removed Friday evening. When the heck did he pig this disgusting thing up?? or more importantly...where? Do these things live in our backyards? We live in Toronto and it is getting cold..I am just glad I found it quickly as this ugly thing was FEEDING OFF MY DOG!!! YECHHH
Well now my poor baby has kennel cough!! He has to stay on the antibiotics for 2 weeks now...the ver said he has seen 10 dogs with this since Saturday. Thomas gets a vaccine for this called bordatella every year...but he still contracted kennel cough. My brothers dog came down with it yesterday and today Thomas started whooping or honking...that is what it sounds like. They were together on Tuesday at the dog park. Two vet visits in one week is enough for me.
