I'll post new pieces here as I paint them. I hope others will do the same and start their own threads in the Art Cafe! :)

I've always enjoyed photography. When I got into Photoshop, the "filters" really opened up my world by allowing me to manipulate my images. I bought some additional software such as "Adjust" by http://www.TopazLabs.com that allowed me to manipulate them even further. Then I bought a Wacom Tablet and Corel Painter. OMG, those tools are amaaaazing! Talk about taking your artwork to another level! Waterpaints, for example, actually run down your paper. Oil paints work just like real oil paints. (If you have a Mac computer, I would be happy to do "screen sharing" in iChat and show you how I do this.)

I have a printer that prints with pigment instead of dye (which means the prints are color and light fast - archival quality), so I started printing them on canvas and fine art watercolor paper. I loved the way they looked but wished I knew how to "embellish" them with real acrylics. I have never painted on canvas (or paper or anything) in my life, so I started taking some private art classes a couple times a month.

Here's a slideshow video I put up on YouTube about a year ago (I painted it about 3 years ago) that shows how I turned a store mannequin into a painting. (I had taken a snapshot of it thru the store window while I was shopping.) The music is a bit loud so check your volume before you click play:

I set my artwork aside for a couple years when work (and my life) got really busy/hectic. I recently reconnected with my art teacher and have started taking lessons again.

The paintings I do now have as much REAL paint as they do virtual paint. Mixed media paintings are soooo much fun to do! I totally encourage you to jump in and try it! Once you get started, you'll be surprised at what you can do!!!!
I did a (digital) painting today from a photo that Diane Margetts posted in the Photography Group of a cute little finch sitting in a tree. (With her permission, of course. She's given me the OK to play with any of the photos she posts. The last one I did was a mixed media painting of Dakota in a Splash Dogs competition.) Thank you, Diane! Your photos inspire me!!! :)

To create this painting, I took it back and forth between Photoshop CS5 and Corel Painter 11. In case anyone is curious how I do this, here are some snapshots of the process:

I usually print a canvas giclee and hand embellish it with acrylics. This one, however, might look really nice on fine art watercolor paper. I'll have to experiment and see which way I like it best. :)
What fun!
Thank you, Nancy! BTW, if you'd like to see a closeup of the bird, go to: http://labellgallery.com/?page_id=6

The process boggles my mind but the results are so beautiful. Brava!
Thank you, F Parker! It was a lot of fun. :)
Beautiful!!!! I'm so happy that you like to play with my photos!!!!
These are really great.
Thanks, Leslie! I sure wish I could paint full time. It's so much fun - very relaxing. :)
