Does anyone use Scott's Fertilizer on their lawn and then let your dogs play or go to the bathroom on the lawn.  I want to fertilize my back yard but am scared because of my 2 doodles.  I went on line to see if there was any cautions on the product but it does not say anything regarding dogs/pets.  Who puts fertilizer down and what kind that is animal friendly?

I use hardly anything anymore because of the dogs. I figure the lawn doesn't really need much fertilizer because I mulch the clippings and leaves when I mow. The best products are organic. You can always top dress the lawn with compost you've made. There are companies who sell all manner of organic and pet friendly products. Here is just one: Gardener's Supply Company
The less phosphorus and nitrogen we pour on our lawns the healthier our water supply too.

We use Garden's Alive Products for the lawn when we actually use any. They are pet and child safe. We don't use any of the commercial type fertilizer or weed killer on our property for the animals, the environment and for US! :)

I emailed Scott's with that very question. It has been a couple years so I don't recall the specifics of their reply. But I remember they assured me the products are safe for use around pets. I have used Scott's in my backyard several times a year since.
