Does anyone make their doodles bandana/ scarves?  I want to make some nice ones for my Doodle Romp coming up in Dec. and I saw in a magazine that they measured 21x21 inches. Does that seem about right or does anyone have a different measurement?  I have to make about 20 so I want to get the most out of the fabric I purchased.

I have made holiday bandannas in the past, using a holiday print on one side and velvet on the other, with velcro closures. For a sixty pound boy the finished meausrements were:

26 in. x 16 in. x 16 in. with a 3 in. adjustable velcro closure.

Camus weighs 72 lbs. and it fits beautifully. The sides are 17" before turning and stiching down. The collar side is 26 in. and turning it down allows for the velvet to show as the collar edge, also giving the fabric enough weight to handle the velcor closure. The one I have has been worn and washed 3 years running and still looks good, but I plan on making a new one for Camus.

I decided on sizing by using a piece of muslin and cutting a few different sizes. When I was happy with the look I made a pattern that was 26.5 in. x 17.5 x 17.5, which allowed for a 1/2 inch seam allowance and 1 inch to turn over for the neck line. I liked a smooth fit and so decided to use velcro rather than tying it around the neck. After you cut the two pieces, sew with right sides together, leaving an opening to turn it right side out. Press and hand stitch the opening then turn down 1 inch on the neck side, machine stitch and finish by sewing the velcro on both ends. Fast, easy and they look great.

I hope this helps.
Thank you Christine. This sounds like you made some very nice scarves. I like the size dimensions and will use that to make them, but they would have to be one ply and no velcro or sewing for that matter since I need so many. This would be nice to do for my two though. Thanks for answering.
I just found this article on making scarves that may work for what you are planning:

Making a bandana. With so many different patterns and fabrics available, you can find the best design to fit your pet. All you need is some festive fabric and a pair of special scissors.

Supplies needed to make 4 large bandanas or 8 small ones:
• 1 yard cotton polyester blend fabric (can be pre-washed, though not required)
• Pinking shears
Instructions

Keep the fabric folded along the natural crease so that the width of the double layer of fabric is 23 inches.

With the fold along the bottom edge, grasp the lower right corner of the fabric and fold at a diagonal to that the bottom right corner is now even with the upper left edge. Make sure the previous right edge of the fabric is now flush with the upper edge of the fabric.
There should now be a triangular shaped piece of fabric with some extra fabric on the left side.

Using pinking shears, cut along the edges, including the base of the newly formed triangle. This will result in 4 large bandanas and some extra fabric.

For smaller bandanas, connect the two edges of the previously made bandanas. This will result in a smaller triangle. Cut the edges with pinking shears. There will now be 8 small bandanas.

Pinking shears are used to delay the inevitable fraying that occurs on the edges of the fabric. For longer lasting bandanas, fold, press and stitch the edges to prevent fraying.
Thank you for this simple way to make a bunch of bandana's. I will make my two like the first set of directions, but this technique worked great. I had 4 yrds total of 4 different types of fabric and was actually able to make 24 large ones as I took the fabric that remained after cutting the triangle, cut it in half, sewed right sides together and was able to fold it again like the first triangle and got 2 more out of each yard, so 6 per yard. Worked great. I quilt so I just cut it with my roller blade.

I tried to upload pictures with Bella and Murphy wearing theirs but the computer isn't cooperating today.
I'll try later.
I'm glad it worked for you. And do try to upload your photos again -- I'd love to see the end product.
